:D hints and tips will be gladly taken.

+1 Same problem here too :(. No connection from outside my LAN.

When you say 'PC', you need to remember that it means 'Personal Computer'. Any personal computer is a PC. Mean what you say, say what you mean and all that. If you're asking something, it's confusing if you didn't say what you really meant.

If you mean running x86 software and OS's (like Windows).. as-is, no.. it won't do it. People HAVE managed to get Windows 3.11 running on the tablet using DOSBOX (very, VERY very slow).

People mentioned rDesktop, but yeah--that's not really running on the tablet.. you're just remotely controlling a Windows box over the network.

If you mean simply LOOKING like a Windows interface, there is the Windows Vista theme that you can install to get the sort of look and feel of Windows Vista. There was also a similar old Windows XP theme too.

If you mean running the same Linux as on your desktop (Ubuntu, Debian,Red Hat, etc.). You'll need to remember that this device is an ARMEL processor and you would need a copy of that OS with a kernel and apps compiled for ARMEL CPU with those heinously closed drivers to support the Nokia tablet hardware.

Well yes you can make it 'look' like a PC.. you can load debian and modify gnome to 'look' like Windows XP...

That doesn't mean it'll actually OPERATE like your Windows PC... thank heavens...

It'll be better :D

thank you, you have a wonderful way of wording your wisdom.

Maybe you could set up a vpn?

even though you opened the port 3389 for RDP on the external interface of your router, you have to make sure you forward that port to the computer you want to connect to via RDP. that pc should be set to a static IP, too. not sure if you did that.

also, what ip/hostname are you using from outside your LAN? did you setup a DynDNS name? that makes things easier.

Also double check that the windoze machine you are connecting to is accepting connections on RDP ports, the service is started and no local firewall is blocking the connection.

Example:
http://gnomestyle.blogspot.com/2007/...ike-vista.html

That makes gnome look like vista... there are similar things to make it look like XP... check the debian gnome thread here and you'll see I made my tablet 'look' like a Leopard MAC OS X using the Mac4Lin tutorials.

But again... 'looking like' and actually 'being' are completely different beasts :D.

If there is enough interest in Debian Gnome looking like XP and Vista I will set it up on my tablet and show some screenshots. Post a how-to if it deviates too much from the already released how-to's (the Mac4Lin did not.. so I didn't find it worthy of Yet another How to).

I hate windows though ... lol. I won't do it unless people ask >.>... I'd feel dirty.

Check, check and check. The port is quite open and forwarded to my pc. setup a dyndns account and got the updater. I can enter tversity from the internet, but the remote desktop has been more web shy. No firewall problem i know of either.....maybe some other option in the router? I have been meaning to try with only my pc connected to the modem, but that usually gets my router unstable for a while, so i haven't made time to try.

I have an account in no-ip, with software updater on my vista desktop. port forwarded but nothing.
Still same problem. Perhaps a problem with Vista? not sure.
