The only thing I have done is to use your 48 Mhz kernel. I also came across Bundyo post about increasing swap file, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...swap+file+size, will try in the future. bun |
Re: 2008HE for Keeps!
I am running 2008he from the internal flash.
Slow yes but runs Gizmo5 and Pidgin pretty well. Also some games work well. I only want my second 770 as a small mobile IM and game device with internet access to Google, and it is fast enough for this. My other 770 I am running the 2006 OS. Mostly for email and multimedia. |
Re: 2008HE for Keeps!
Dear Board.
Using "SU-18_2008HACKER_4.2007.50-6_PR_F5_MR0_ARM" image in my N770. I'd like to know a few things about this Image. - I flashed and started to use. UI looks great but the performance is quite slow. I Presume "metalayer-crawler" uninstall could help me with this? What about "hacker2008-patches.tar.gz" found on the "http://tablets-dev.nokia.com" site. What to do with this? Is this nessessary and how to install it? Boot-Nokia-Sound sounds also very funny.. The purpose is just to use browser a bit. NO media's (divx etc..) - I managed to get WiFi connection, but phone 3G had some issues "could not connect..." - I installed Become-boot and "roxterm". |

You'll want to make sure your Virtual RAM is set to atleast 32mb. I set mine to 64mb on a 2 gig card. Ignore those extra files. Those are for those porting software to the platform. My sound is just fine but I have a slight lag with booting. Not sure about Bluetooth pairing as I never use this anyway. |
Re: 2008HE for Keeps!
Ok, I have 8MB now (128MB card), and there were no other options.
What about the patch files? How can I install that? I think it is needed indeed? |
Re: 2008HE for Keeps!
No you don't need those patch files at all. It's fine without them. But you may want to remove metalayer, only if it's dog slow. Or as Bunanson may tell you, install to a better MMC card and boot from it.
I do recommend you get a 1 gig MMC card. 8MB as swap is why it's so slow! Any option to increase it to say oh...64mb of that 128mb MMC? You'll want to disconnect the USB cord before setting it to make more swap size. That's a given. Always disconnect it before altering the swap. Tools,Control Panel,Memory. Virtual and hit the drop down list to 64mb. Click the Extend Virtual Memory. Make sure it's checked and hit OK. I recommend you set it to 64mb if you want to use the web. And again see if you can get a bigger MMC card. |

I'd stick with 2007HE if you want a working updated OS for the 770. |
