CDMA Moto Razr v3c worked very well on my N810. New HTC Touch Diamond (also CDMA) works well, but took a bit of fiddling to get it set up.

Both on the Telus network in Canada.

Thanks for the info. Its seems like I'll stick with AT&T. I'll go and play with a 6650 tomorrow and see how I like it. If I went the unlocked route I would like a nokia n79, which appears to be compatible with the ATT 3G freq. but its hard to find the right version and on nokia's website its still listed as a pre-order? Oh well, I wish US carriers could carry some of the better nokia phones!

I literally just went and bought a Sony-Ericsson TM506 today. It's the only 3G tmobile phone that supports both HSDPA(Faster than UTMS) and DUN tethering. I'm in the NE side of San Antonio, so T-Mo's 3g has been out here for a while.

After about three hours of messing with settings, I've finally gotten it to work.

T-Mo EDGE speeds: 26kbps download
T-Mo 3G speeds: 755kbps download

I don't know if the BT connection is the bottleneck here, but i can play youtube videos and stream vagalume now, whereas on EDGE it was basically a waste.

I'm surprised - in NYC I've clocked 70kbps on EDGE regularly if I believe dslreports.com/mspeed (or whatever that is). Not much above "stinks" (frankly) in modern times, but a bit of a jump beyond 26,000 (or so) bits per sec. You /should/ be able to do better than modem speeds, after all.

Maybe you've got a hellacious big cell out there in flat-country, but I thought I'd heard some San Franciscans claiming stuff that broke a 1Mb/s rates regularly for 3G on some other carriers.

I'm a T-mo user in "the city", and eyeing them suspiciously about their high rates for 3G. You'd think they make enough money off the kids' SMS and ringtones to not gouge me for data .... (I need to check in more frequently with howardforums to see what people are getting).

Anybody is using the 3g T-mobile service in San Francisco, does it worth it? I am thinking about upgrading my phone to a 3g one.

just stay away from verizon, i tried to connect via my verizon phone, it worked great, loaded a webpage, but it was just a page informing me I needed to pay $60 a month for the service...F that!!

I'm on T-Mobile, and I use the TM506 to tether. I'm in Dallas.

Max BT bandwidth is 700 kbps. I always max that out when connected to the 3g network here. However, when I tether via cable to my laptop, I get 1.6 mbps.

On edge, I would get anywhere from 128 kbps to 210 kbps, and it was super laggy.

NOTE, there is a firmware update available for the TM506. DO NOT INSTALL IT. It disables BT tethering. (it also improves GPS lock time and a few other things.)

If you buy a TM506 and it has tethering disabled, you can flash an old version of the firmware over it to get tethering back. See the T-Mobile/Sony Ericsson forum on howardforums.com

I checked the t-mobile website and I didn't see the price different for 3G. If I have already subscribed for EDGE, do I need to pay more for 3G?
