I hear it will be released a few weeks before the Pandora.

Will Duke Nukem Forever be released by then?

Duke Nukem Forever will be an exclusive free game on the first 500 Pandoras.

I don't get it. You say it works for you, but you're willing to sell it NOW and wait on the Nxxx?

I would suppose that the original poster intended it to be less about functionality and more of a sense of feeling somewhat betrayed by the brand and the promise of the device being 'future proof' (i.e. open-source based) that Nokia kept using in their marketing early on. If Nokia can't make a device that uses open source drivers and open standards to communicate with that hardware, they should at least have the integrity to support their product hardware a bit longer. Particularly stinging for recent N810WE purchasers to read about Freemantle.

I've been very, very happy with my N800--but I got the feeling it's getting kicked to the curb by its manufacturer much sooner than it deserves--I'd argue that's it's certainly too soon for the N810WE. To throw Freemantle porting to the community is to offload all responsibility without giving you all of the drivers and the keys to the kingdom in the older generation of hardware. This can certainly feel like betrayal.

Aw well, as I've said before.. no big deal. I've liked my N800 a lot.. but if Nokia doesn't handle this well, it could be a learning experience that benefits someone else who does it better. My feeling could be wrong, and Nokia might make things alright after all.. but right now, it doesn't seem likely. I hope I'm wrong.

I didn't detect that cynicism at all there, Dan. I also continue to think too much is made of the Freemantle issue, and that your sentiments along those lines are making you see something in the OP that wasn't there...

You do know they released an open source wifi driver for the N8x0 some time ago, right? and that the N900 is shipping with an open wifi driver? I'm not really seeing your argument here.

What? Nothing about the use of the term Freemantle?

As for the N800, I'm recommending a "buy" on that piece of hardware right now. Cheap and powerful!

Have you listed it on ebay yet? I am interested in buying it. What price range would you sell it at?

Well, I sold it to one of our student researchers for $130 including the Boxwave leather case.

The reason for my getting rid of it and buying something new is I'm not sure what's going on with Freemantle, N9xx, etc. I mainly just used the device and wanted to know what's next. I wasn't going to wait for another Palm type dropping of the line, if that was to be. Speculation and vaporware drives me nuts. Not that I'm on the bleeding edge, the N810 was out when I bought my N800. So, instead of waiting around, I decided I can watch my videos on my iPod touch and do the Linux thing on a Linux based netbook.
