I tend to agree that it's broken. The thread you indicate shows that it's possible to buy a new screen and replace it diy, however, aren't we close to the release of the next gen NIT? the N9XX or whatever it is going to be branded? I tried to look for a release date, but nobody knows anything, seems like.

Yes, it's not too difficult to change, you just need a small flat screwdriver to remove the front plate and a torx 6 for the screen assembly.
It's up to you to decide if it's worth it.

Just placed an order for a new screen. We'll see how it goes. I'll post the results here.

Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800

My screen started having problems as a row of white pixels along the top of the screen. Within a week I was getting jagged steaks of white and gray going form the top down. I then got a 1/3 shift right double image, except in full screen mode. Now it has screen shift and full screen snow. Sent it into Nokia repair, bought new 2-13-08, and they say it is out of warranty (I sent in copy of original invoice with date). I have yet to receive an answer as to why it is out of warranty. Nokia has had it since the 13th.

Nokia finally explained why my N800 was "out of warranty" I bought my N800 from Amazon and they don't put serial #s on their receipts. So they go buy date of manufacture. Anyway they are replacing the screen for $108.00 including shipping.

Got my N800 back yesterday, same serial # but looks and works as if brand new.

Re: Strange Screen Problem - N800

Screen arrived yesterday. I am very happy to announce it fixed the problem (rolling screen).

Tip: use quality torx drivers during disassembly. I butchered the screws with low grqde ones.
