With the amount of memory limited to just 256 mb for installation of apps... i would think everyone would be happy to open the hood and look for alternatives like boot from sd and boot menu etc...

So do not assume that most of the it users will not look at alternatives like boot menu etc .. until nokia itslef fixes that.

That's a compressed 256MB, so more like 512MB of real storage.

Nobody is "assuming" anything. Unsupported is unsupported. End of story.

Anyway, bootmenu and SD booting don't really cause problems, they just add steps to the update process. The real problems tend to result from developers not being mindful of SSU, users screwing around at the lower levels of the system when they don't always know what they're doing, and Nokia occasionally assuming a few too many things about initial update conditions.

Really, SSU works perfectly for the vast majority of people.

How did you update ?

This SSU went perfectly for me. Every one before forced me to do a reflash but this one was smooth sailing. I think Nokia has worked out the big bugs in the SSU system this time. I'm happy.
