I have been using Canola for mp3s and oggs (of late, mostly podcasts) and mplayer for video. I haven't really played with Canola for video.
I tried MediaBox, but I couldn't get my head around the interface. I think I need to try it again. --vr |

There was a bug introduced, which broke the built in media scanner on N8x0s (metalayer-crawler).
That bug is fixed in the community SSU. A lot of advanced users disable automatikc running of the scanner and run it manually due to the fact that while running it does use a lot of resources. Just to comment on the main topic of this thread, I use either mediaplayer or canola, along with the "now playing notifierzf available in extras which shows the track info in a system notification when the player starts playing a new track. |

If you want a player that is 'close to iTunes' you want to try out Quasar for the N810.
