Re: any way to uninstall mer?
It doesn't look like bootmenu uninstalls via Maemo Application Manager. I still get all the bootmenu messages after removing Mer and uninstalling the Mer install and Bootmenu via Application Manager. The boot status bar for Maemo is now gone as well. Looks like I'm reflashing if I want to get rid of everything. I have Ubuntu running on my notebook, but I'm still way too intimidated by Linux. I'll just do the complete reflash and restore my data.

Re: any way to uninstall mer?
As already said: use the --flash-only option.
The easiest way to do it in linux: download flasher-3.0 and the latest firmware from tablets-dev.nokia.com and put em in your home directory. Open up the terminal and copy-paste following in: first Code:
chmod +x flasher-3.0 Code:
sudo ./flasher-3.0 -f -F RX-44_DIABLO_5.2008.43-7_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin --flash-only=initfs -R That will flash only the bootmenu (initfs) |
Re: any way to uninstall mer?
Thanks, I think I will try that the next time. I already did the complete reflash via WinXP and restored my backup. It was actually a good experience, because three apps (Seqretary, usb-otg-plugin, and -- believe it or not -- Tear) did not restore properly or at all. For Tear, I lost all my settings and bookmarks. It's good to know that I can't do a complete restore just using the Backup utility that comes with OS2008. I think I'll start manually backing up the .tear folder as well.
I think if I'm going to keep using this wonderful little NIT that I need to get more familiar with Linux on something other than just the NIT. Time to commit my notebook 100% to Ubuntu or something -- it's the only way I'm going to eventually get as comfortable with Linux as I am with WinXP. Thanks again. -- Chris |
Re: any way to uninstall mer?
I back up mine any time I want to, it takes only 2-3min, hardly ANY excuse NOT to back up. And yes, its a ghost image of your working tablet, it backsup everything.
BTW, Meizirkki's suggestion about the boot menu is a good one. Or, this one works too. None of them disturb the working tablet in anyway. bun |
