wooo hoooo!

I was just talking to a colleague and we agreed that the problem with many people evaluating the N810 is that they expect it to be a PMP, handheld gaming console, PDA, smartphone, or MID. It is really none of those, although it is most like a MID, only with a slower processor and longer battery life.

It does a halfway-decent job of several of those other things, too, especially portable media player. My daughter watched movies in the car yesterday for hours.

Re: Waiting for my NIT to come...

After showing my N810 to a bunch of family members (after endless questions of: what's that?) I found it was best received when described as a TINY COMPUTER. They were generally impressed and commented how useful it would be to check emails when travelling. Once it had a title -- and as such, a clear purpose -- they loved it.

If it doesn't turn on, you need to charge it.
If it turns on, you can use it until it runs out of battery.

Life is simple, if you let it be... :)

do i need to charge this thing overnight or somethin before i can use it? (i've never gotten the same li-ion advice twice)

You know you can use it on a/c power while it is charging. I have a second charger and second battery. Always a fresh battery available!

I believe it stops charging once it's full so overnight charging would not make sense. I did charge my n800 and n810 completely before using though.

My n800 still has the same battery life after more than a year which is about four hours on wifi or about 8 hours continuous offline use. Not sure how long it lasts when idle because it never was idle before. It might get a bit more idle time since I also just bought the n810 a couple of weeks ago.

For a great summary of how to care for different types of batteries, see Battery University. For more information than you ever wanted to know about Li-ion batteries, take a look here.

How should I prepare my new battery? Li-ion comes partially charged. You can use the battery right away and charge it when needed.

Should I use up all battery energy before charging? No, it is better to recharge more often; avoid frequent full discharges.
