Also, at least one person purchased a "new" tablet from Expansys that turned out to be a prototype device. Obviously, Nokia didn't provide it to Expansys for sale, and prototype devices don't have warranty support from Nokia, nor can they be flashed with normal firmware.

I'm not saying Expansys shipped you something other than a brand new, retail tablet. I'm just warning you the company seems to engage in shady practices at times.

It was definitely new, box was still sealed in plastic, started up the nokia, had the orig screen protector thing on it, and it booted into the main setup page. everythign looked brand new so should be fine :) Thanks for the heads up though

Do you have any that run all the time? Like the home aps? They can effect it the most from what I've been told ;)

Also leaving programmes loaded while it's idling can drain the battery.

You could also try installing Load-applet. That'll let you see what is drawing on the CPU. Either that or enter "top" in the X Terminal.

for home aps, all i have is personal launcher, GPE Summary, and Google Search,

Running in taskbar i have: Accounts,cpu/mem monitor, advanced battery, advanced sound/display, Claws Mail, Clock

i have like 500mb of programs installed though. and i also have autlock installed,

Anybody know what happens when you remove the battery from the tablet (810)?

Does it reset automatically, or do you have a few seconds to replace it without loosing any info?

I am looking at buying a second battery for this if it does not reset to factory (hard reset) when pulled.

thanks...

It will crash hard. There's no capacitor or bridge battery to hold the system up while you swap out the battery.

In fact, you need a working battery in the tablet even when it is connected to the charger. Power from the charger is passed through the battery to the tablet. Therefore, you can't even swap batteries while connected to mains if you want to keep the system up.

You might try eBay. Nokia doesn't offer an official BP-4L charger, but assorted third party suppliers--often based in Hong Kong--are filling the void. Folks in these fora have reported success with such inexpensive desktop chargers from eBay. Just be aware that any batteries that come with the charger are almost certain to be rated way higher than their true capacity, if they take a charge at all.

Frankly you could have serched a bit more in the RECENT topics about your problem ...

So you would have read that some taskbar applets are known to drain faster the battery ... especially those who continuously check memory, for example ...

You say you installed many softs ... beaware that if you pick softs from the dev repository, they are not yet perfectly stable or power efficient, so you may face battery life issues (amongst many other problems).

As a general rule with computers, when you get a new machine, you may test many many softwares if you like, but after that it's better to reset the device completely and install only the softwares you use ...

PS : how did ya manage to install 500Mb of softwares, it's huge !?!

I bought two sido batteries with a charger from ebay, and I get out of them the same (short) time than the original nokia battery. YMMV.
Edit: just noticed that this is the n810 forum, my batteries are for the n800.

Removing the battery does not reset the N810 to its factory state, no saved files will be lost. Only if you were to remove the battery without first using the Switch Off! function would you lose unsaved data.
