thats a problem with irony and sarcasm online, even with a big fat smiley at the end, there are those that will take the content for face value, and things will go down hill from there...

another issue is that one can go online with a preconceived notion, and find things that will back it up, apparently no matter how wild...

Well, there's gullible, naive and then there's just outright ignorant. Of course, the magic 4th category is "not gullible, but rather selfishly stubborn". Case in point. Someone is making lots of cash off Microsoft Windows, but they can't or refuse to find a way to make money off anything else, so they pretend like other truths are merely lies by other self interested people. IE, their greed makes them think that everyone else is greedy too and is trying to steal away their fortune. *rolls eyes*

Hey!! I resemble that remark waaaaay too close for comfort.

I'm a MCDBA and I make my money from Microsoft simply because it's always in demand. I also support Linux, AIX and HP-UX, but during even my most downtimes, I make money from Microsoft. And I'd like to think it's because of my expertise; however it's more than likely due to the sheer number of "admins" (notice the quotes) that make bad decisions, destroy a cluster, a PDC/BDC, or AD domain and... well, I get the call.

On the *nix side of things... I don't deal with that kind of ignorance. The problems are usually more intricate and custom per client.

Anyway, the fact that my friend actually looked at the article to support their love for Windows was a defense mechanism. They're reluctant to change because of familiarity... which honestly, affects Linux and Mac users as well. People are downright fearful of other workflows... I personally love different OS's because it keeps me on my toes.

But I'm part of that magical fourth group... I make my money from Microsoft. And I'm an addict... ;)

Just make him dualboot Linux. When he sees that the system works faster because there're no viruses and adware, he'll start using it more and eventually switch over altogether.

haha. Yeah, I've had people like that before. One of my best "fixes" is to setup a user on a machine with Linux, and tell them that it's a new and special version of Windows. When they ask about it further, you say that it has such good security, compared with just "regular" Windows, that if an app won't run, then "Windows" has rejected it because it's most likely malware and they shouldn't use it anymore. Oddly, it works more often than you'd think. lol.
