As far as i know the default MicroB (AKA Maemo Browser) doesn't use the XUL that Firefox does, making it incompatible with Firefox plugins without some work. If that has changed i'd be happy to know.

There was a project that ported some add-ons on OS2008, but i haven't seen any activity for Maemo 5.

...Are you sure about that? Because first thing I install when I get my n900 is adblock plus. Because I can't help but notice that there are always quite a bit of ads on the demo videos of the device.

On the N810 MicroB has a "Tools" sub-menu that along with "Settings", "Components" (plug-ins), and "Downloads" has a sub-sub-menu called "Clear".

You are then given the options to clear "Browsing history", "Cache", "Cookies", "Passwords", or "All personal data".
We will soon see and hear if the N900's file system and the components of core applications are substantially different from the N8**'s or even the 770 for that matter... However, I doubt that an update would take features away.

So I'm pretty sure you will be able to continue your "holiday shopping" in private, if you know what I mean. ;) ;)

It takes five quick taps to clear your history (and return to browsing).

No; as i said, i'm not sure about it on Maemo 5. They may have changed it.

In any case, there are other ways around ads, and other browsers.

I simply don't log any history ever, and reduce the cache to nothing and so on :)

So if anyone looks there is nothing and never was anything there.

I realize that people wish to look at porn (also, or especially, in repressed societies) without leaving too many traces, although I'm not sure if tiny screens with expensive mobile plans are ideal for that purpose.

However there are many, many genuine reasons why people might not want to leave their browsing history behind so the pedantic shouts are a little over the top, IMO.

There are countries small and very large where simply being in possession of politically incorrect browsing history puts people in grave danger. :(

Secondly, a Linux computer without proper multi-user (and more recently Guest) feature?

The private browsing mode in modern browsers is a bit different to just wiping history. It allows you to privately browse for just one session only, but still keep history prior to that, which is useful for address bar completion and so on. It would be nice if N900 had such a mode.

Don't forget the N900 has TV-out. I used my N95 as my main video/pron player for months hooked to a big screen...
