Re: PIM Synchronization options on the N900
I'm running Google Apps right now on my Blackberry, so I get push e-mail through Blackberry's servers, and the calendar and contacts are synced by Google's sync app which runs in the background on the BB.
Google offers the same setup for S60 Nokia devices, so maybe we'll see a port for the N900? That would be fantastic - use Nokia Messaging to push your email, and then use the Google Sync app to update calendar and contacts. |
Re: PIM Synchronization options on the N900
I (obviously) don't have mine yet, but I was very satisfied with Google on my n810 and the iTouch I've been using in the interim.

Re: PIM Synchronization options on the N900
The problem with Google is that you need an internet connection to sync. When I'm traveling, I don't always have access to the internet, so I'd like to be able to sync locally as well...
Being able to sync over the air is great, but local sync is an important fallback for me. |
Re: PIM Synchronization options on the N900
I have a number of questions about synching. I currently have an E90 with Mail for Exchange, and it works fine, but could be better. Could someone with an N900 see if these issues have been addressed?
) Will I keep all email addresses when Syncing? ....I have more than 3 emails in some Outlook contacts. ) Keep Ring Tones when Sync/updating? .... Outlook doesn't have a field for this, so updates "erase" individual ring tones. ) Allow input of: +1(213)922-5555 ....My S60 App won't allow non-numerics like +()- ) Manage Extension Numbers ....E.g. +1(213)922-5555 Ext. 123 ....at lease so I could see them while dialing ) Sync with both Outlook at work, AND Thunderbird/Lightning at home!! Thanks in advance, |

I kindly ask support to users has yet a N900 device. Unfortunately all reviews focus more on the "WOW effects" (secondary from my point of view) and never on real usage scenario / business usage and syncronization. I think n900 is a great device but I really need sync features and I would like to avoid to spend money for a device is not for me. thank you! handrea |
Re: PIM Synchronization options on the N900
The synchronization situation is looking worse and worse - the official word is that sync to Google via Exchange ActiveSync is _not_ supported (apparently it's hit & miss from device to device and day to day, so that makes it a very unreliable option - if it were to work at all), so direct Outlook/Sunbird/Thunderbird sync is the only viable option. If none of those are available, I won't be using the N900.
Which sucks, because the alternatives (Droid and HD2) aren't up to par hardware wise (mainly because of the crappy or missing hardware keyboards and capacitive screens)... Oh and did I mention that the Droid looks like something pulled out of a bad SciFi movie? |
Re: PIM Synchronization options on the N900
Thank you bemymonkey,
that's a sad news. I think a modern device like N900 should really have both capability in sync (Outlook/Sunbird/Thunderbird and Exchange), this let me really surprised. I'll never buy the device without these features :( |

Perhaps you could be intrested to this thread I started some time ago:

Re: PIM Synchronization options on the N900
Direct Outlook sync does work, is reliable (so far), but is extremely limited. Extremely. Forget about Task alarms. Forget about complex repeats (i.e., every other week). Lots more that's pathetic.
