Re: N900 + Stylus = Pen Tablet for Photoshop?
@elimoon8
You are right. It is weird for using as a writing pad. Perhaps a "stylus input" mode could be added to BlueMaemo. For now you might be better off with VNC. =\ I use Xournal on my tablet and transfer PDF to my laptop, not ideal of course. |
Re: N900 + Stylus = Pen Tablet for Photoshop?
I cannot imagine this being at all practical from an ergonomic standpoint.
I have a Wacom Intuos A6, which is great to use, but anything smaller than that is just useless. As it is, I have been wanting to get a Intuos A5 for many years, but I do not do enough photo-editing in Photoshop to justify the expense. |
Re: N900 + Stylus = Pen Tablet for Photoshop?
I doubt it's ergonomically practical, but for the owner of a non-touch screen pc, this could be potentially very useful, since you don't have to purchase another accessory for your computer (typically priced $50 and up). In my case, I *have* a tablet pc (the Gateway C141XL), but the screen stopped working for some reason. Since it will cost me more to replace the screen/digitizer than buying a new laptop, I prefer to avoid that option. Also, I just want to use the input feature to input a lot of math formulas into Word documents (doing it through the symbols menu is truly a pain, and using the windows 7 math handwriting input makes it a breeze).
All that said, relating back to the original topic, this is not the ideal setup for a dedicated artist, who would probably want a more convenient, dedicated solution. |
Re: N900 + Stylus = Pen Tablet for Photoshop?
Another thing, is that while a proper graphics tablet can sense the angle of the pen and can sense hundreds/thousands of pressure levels, you also do not use the tablet only when the pen is actually touching it (that is only when you are actually drawing) - you move the mouse cursor around the screen while the pen is upto several centimetres above the tablet.
The stylus on the N900 would be able to do none of that. I cannot see how you could move the cursor around without touching/drawing, and the lack of pressure levels would make it totally useless for the situations where using a graphics tablet is desirable in the first place. BTW elimoon, if you try to edit a post, you get an option to delete it, at the top. |

I filed a "stylus input solution" as an enhancement for Bluemaemo here. Please vote for it if you feel it would be useful.

Yes the tablets do not send pressure information so as graphics tablets they are no substitute. However I find it to be more precise than a mouse.

Re: N900 + Stylus = Pen Tablet for Photoshop?
Getting a small digital painting software for n900 would make it my favourite gadget in the world! :) You know, Nintendo DS has this homebrew software called Colors!, that has just some basic features. Pressure sensitive brush with size and opacity control. Hard and soft brush, zoom, save and nice colour palette. Now this is not my painting, but it is done on the DS Colors! http://cache.lifehacker.com/assets/r.../colors-ds.png
Doesn't N900 also have the same kind of touch screen as DS? |
