With a lot of UK carriers international roaming charges are cheaper for MMS than text in USA!

From my perspective I just receive a mesage on my phone with a picture in it. I don't have to connect to the web, I don't have to download it from a link, it's just there.

With the N900 you can share your photo just pushing two buttons via Bluetooth , e-mail and also Ovi by Nokia, Flickr and Facebook.

So your mam can share to you and also to other people her photo :-).

Everithing using the data connection, withouse use mms and withous spends a lot of money. Here in Italiy 1 mms costs 1 euro.

:-)

Same here in .nl. Screw the MMS feature. I will never use it. Put effort in other things (like multiple calendar integration).

Over 500 million MMS messages were sent last year in the UK alone. (Source)

Just because you don't use it, doesn't mean other people don't. It's the only way many of us have to exchange quick pictures with family member who don't, and won't, own a high end smart phone/MID.

It's also a big source of revenue for operators. If we want them to subsidise Maemo devices it's something you need to think about.

Of those mentioned only bluetooth does what mms does, and bluetooth has some pretty obvious limitations.

MMS is used to send a picture to one person and they receive it immediately. That's it. If it cost 1 € it's completely pointless naturally (40 cents with TIM though, still way too expensive) but with my operator here in finland it's 6 cents, the same as an sms, so it's pretty useful if you need to show something right away.

Either way I really think it's a useful service since not everyone is instantly reachable by email or im.

I ordered my N900 without an operator. I hate to be tied to a company. And the big revenue is exactly the reason why i won't use it. It's waaaaay overpriced. People should know that.

Nice to know.

I have never owned a device with such support. Within the last 4 years, I have been on iPhones and a Palm Pre.

Looking forward to a breath of fresh air. I just hope T-Mobile works well in my area as this will be my personal/business all in one phone.

If you have been using the iPhones.. then you haven't missed a thing.. :D The iPhone got the MMS recently..

Ummm MMS? is this a realy usefull function? i never send a mms on my entire life, im from dominican republic and 1 sms cost around 0.95 dominican peso (us $0.02 dollar) and a mms cost $50 dominican peso (us$1.38 dollar).

I think if you cant send mms just send an email, if the other person cant receive email on the phone so he needs to wait arrive home and get the email pictures on the pc. Its simple.

sorry for my english.

I order rail tickets with my phone and get a code sent by mms.
At the train the mms code is scanned.
So I can use my phone as a ticket saving me some time because I can buy my ticket on the go and not at the station.

That's why mms is important and usefull for me.

I agree mms is very important indeed, not everyone we know will have a N900's other people that dont have smartphones will still be sending us mms messages
