Re: Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900

Simplest way... (even works between nokia and sony ericssion as my OH descovered!)

Make a backup of contacts onto your mico SD card on your old phone
On S60 goto contacts -> options->mark/unmark->mark all
then..
options->copy->to memory card.
Now..
simply pop the microSD into the N900 and restore from backup.

Dont know for sure if the N900 has the restore from SD card option but i'd be very surprised if it didnt!

3800 contacts? You work for a call center?

I'll try the memory card contacts backup copy suggestion. By that same logic we should be able to copy the same way for text messages right?

Does anyone know if the a bug has been entered in bugzilla for the issue with not being able to copy sms/ emails from S60 devices?

Unfortunetly it doesnt look like you can make a backup of your text messages in s60. Just had a look on my n82 and no option there im afraid.

Re: Transfering my numbers (contacts) onto the N900

1: SIM cards can only take a limited number of phone numbers (not contacts), maybe 100, maybe 200 (depending on SIM card).
2: And those are numbers, not contacts: Each entry is one name (not too long), and one number.

If you want a proper transfer of contacts, then dump the contacts list through bluetooth or something. I can send a list from any of the older phones I have, to either my N800 or a laptop with bluetooth, and I end up with a .vcard file with all the contacts. This contacts list can be ingested or massaged back into a new device. If you try to do this via the very limited phone number list on a SIM card you will lose information unless your contacts list is really just a phone number list, and short.

The transfer app on the N900 works fine bluetooth. Not quite the huge list above but just under 600 transferred fine and quickly too from an E61

Anyone else think this is a legit issue that needs to be addressed?

Not really - you could store sms on the sim card if you wish - and email sits on a server as a rule so you havent really lost it.

You know that Ovi syncing can result in broken contacts? I have Nokia E66 and if I sync it with Ovi then many things got lost (addresses for example). Same phone with Scheduleworld or Funambol works fine.
