OK n00b questions time.

I'm trying to make the mplayer.conf folder but it keeps saying permission denied in emelfm2. how do i gain access to allow me to do this?

i can log onto x-term as root etc but thats about it.

Re: To increase mplayer volume and other sound tweaks

On N900

make a file
/home/user/.mplayer/config and put in the following

softvol=yes
softvol-max= 600

Some other suggestions:
af=volume=15.1:0
or just
af=volnorm

Everything of your concerns are, unfortunately, true. Increase volume to certain extent will get beyond the distortion curve and increase volume beyond the speaker capacity, again, will damage the device speakers. However, you can try just like your stereo deck speakers, i.e, increase to the extent you start to hear distortion, then back up a tard, that will be the highest volume the device speaker can take and still doing more or less alright.
