Of course if you want to work on this and give construtive feedback that is of course useful, but we all should be honest in saying the N900 and Maemo are still work in progress - hence step 4 of 5 on the roadmap to consumer smartphone space. Behaving like this was some sort of surprise helps no one. |

My first post, and I'm with the OP. Received my n900 yesterday and am pretty impressed. Things I have tested so far are...
01: wifi 02: tv out 03: still camera 04: video camera 05: media playback 06: xterm gainroot 07: usb data transfer 08: gps 09: t-mobile phone 10: t-mobile internet ...and all work just fine B-) What I look forward too and wouldn't mind testing: 1: A good file manager...midnight commander would be perfect 2: nfsmount 3: more games such as freeciv |

what i love about linux these days and osx (to some degree), is its ability to let you quickly/easy do what you want, but if you want to do a little bit more, fire open the terminal and go as you please. so to have a mobile device that has that same state of mind is what sold the n900 to me. i def don't recommend this device for everyone, but im a person who loves tinkering (i don't really develop minus making quick shell scripts or python scripts to do certain tasks), and being able to fully have control of what i want on a device... sold sold sold! |

I dont understand all this smartphone talk?
What cant the n900 do that my 5800 or n95 or iphone can in terms as a smartphone. All phones i own and used before this. Yes there are currently missing a few phone features but not SMARTPHONE features. MMS, voice dialling, exchange, better profiles. all of which are phone features which are coming soon. This is more of a smartphone than the phones i mentioned and its 1 week old!! ps. i have never used linux before unless you count playing on my ps2 psp ps3 and n900 mr2600 typed on my n900 |

When I really push the device, I *occasionally* see a reboot. By occasionally I mean its happened to me exactly twice. All phones lack features in comparison to the list of all features present on all other phones. Which ones are you missing? I'm not a linux guru by any means. I love my windows box and linux is ******ed sometimes. This phone is the opposite. It rocks. I'm not trying to jump on you here, but my experience is the exact opposite of yours. I'm wondering what you're doing. |

For practical use its no use? I have had no bugs or hangups what so ever, I have installed over 50 apps already and nothing has caused me problems For linux lovers? Never used linux in my life, have no idea about coding or anything. For ordinary folks ? I am 22, have my own travel company, love video games and tech, so i think i am pretty ordinary. Oh and i love this phone too? It pretty much has everything you could ask for, plus more. I am on a very high priced cap here in AUS for my business, and i make a lot of phone calls, on average 4-5hrs a day on the mobile. When i got my phone yesterday while i was setting up my home screens i would always be bombarded with calls. But you know what? It was perfect! I would put them on loudspeaker, head back to the desktop and keep customizing it while talking, seamlessly! I feel that many of these comments must be plain misinformed!? |
