I understand Nokia stopped offering Fax app on its phones because 3G doesn't support it. But if we can switch the N900 to 2G, wouldn't it be possible to use Fax?

If fax works similarly enough to SSTV, it shouldn't deteriorate much over GSM (i'm not finding it now, but i once saw a video where this guy successfully transmitted a SSTV frame with a GSM call)

FALSE. I've sent many faxes with my previous motorola GSM using efax on linux and a simple usb cable.
