Just to add, I've got Chicken of the VNC on my Macbook to connect to my N900.

There is the (well documented bug) that the inputs you make the VNC don't stop the screen from powering down, but this is straight forward to overcome.

1. Enable extras testing repo
2. Download x11vnc
3. run x11vnc from gui
4. connect from PC using phone ip address and default port with no password
