i'm running PR1.1 and i have downloaded complete europe but my gps doesn't get locked... there's "search gps" minute after minute... and every 30 seconds the pop up comes up where i should choose my internet connection?! :(

If you have internet, Settings>Location>Network positioning check Enable and change to supl.google.com:7276

If you do not have internet, Settings>Network positioning uncheck Enable

Either way, try install eCoach and bring it up. I have NOT confirm that eCoach is helping, apparantly, eCoach keeps the gps search long enough to get lock, while Ovi map dies prematurely, that is what I read in the forum.

Another one, Dektop menu>Add Widget>add Location. I read in some post, Location may use some battery though, but it sure helps to get lock faster.

Am I doing something wrong or is it not possible to enter a destination number? So far I have had to settle for entering the Street name since the widget just wouldn't allow me to enter numbers.

With internet or no internet? I just tried, with internet, enter a street number, street name, city, and bamp, it found it, add to route, bamp, route is there. PR1.1 Ovi.

i cant use map loader at all on n900 at all, works fine on n97 tho, all warnings are below:

(you have connected at least one phone in mass storage mode. reconnect your phone and select pcsuite)

(waiting for phone)

(you have connected at least one phone without a valid maps drive.either you are using an old maps version-then you must update your maps app or reconnect your phone in MASS STORAGE mode- or you have never started maps - then you have to bla bla bla)

does anyone know a fix for this?

Took me a bit to figure this one out. You have to press fn and the number simultaneously. I'm not sure why this is inconsistent with everything else on the phone

I'm just wondering why you should need a (Windows) computer, a wired connection from that to N900, Maploader and an internet connection for that machine? Why so freaking difficult and Microsoft-tied?

Why not keep it simple, and have the maploader as software in N900 and download the maps OTA?

1) dl maploader here,http://www.nokiausa.com/exploreservi...s-and-services, default is window and English,
2) Install it on your winPC; apparantly winXP works, vista has issues
3) Reboot PC, WONT WORK WITHOUT winPC REBOOT
4) USB connect PC and N900, choose mass storage mode
5) click open maploader on winXP
6) ...."Delete previous map data?..." Yes
7) "Update phone info..." AND automatically dl and install UK and Europe... like it or not 6) and 7) took about 10 minute, a penalty for nonEuropeans :)
8) Now you presented with a catalogue of downloadable maps, 5 of them for a total of 5.5 G, as space is precious, I would 1st delete UK and Europe to reclaim space, unless you really want them, "Delete ALL map data?" Yes
9) click the '+' next to your map of desire, US is 1.9 G and will take a total of 2 hrs for dl and install, on a good night :-)

Maps: 0.1.23.112 (2008)
Maploader 3.0.28.0

You can also do the maps manually, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=36939, thread #20; not quite sure how to do the voice though, as if it matters?

have fun,

I'm on a Mac w/OS 10.6.2. After not being able to get this to work on the Mac side, I fired up XP under Parallels and was successful getting steps 1 - 9 above to work. XP asked me to install PC Suite, which I declined and it then let me connect using Mass Storage mode. After that, it was very smooth.

I don't see why you couldn't do http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...1&postcount=20 entirely on the N900.
