Re: N800 in Canada
It is weird that it is not available from Nokia here in Canada. The warranty booklet that comes with the ITs have Canadian specific text and mentions all the Canadian standards approvals.

Anyway, just thought that was a bit weird. But I'm glad I got it though. It's great. |
Re: N800 in Canada
I also recently purchased one from TigerDirect.ca as did a friend of mine. One thing I've noticed about TigerDirect: They will often remove a product entirely from their website when they run out of stock, and will repost the item as soon as they have more available. Prior to Christmas, I was considering buying a 770. TigerDirect yanked the 770 from inventory over the holidays, and it showed up once again for sale at the beginning of January.
If I were you, I'd just keep going back to TigerDirect.ca every couple days and punch "N800" into their search field. It'll turn up again, as they seem to sell out of them rather quickly. |
Re: N800 in Canada
I live in Toronto, but had a relative buy my 770 from CompUsa in Rochester in Jan. 2006. Last November, I began a search for a BP-5L battery. Nokia.ca was of no help. To raise the stakes I said it was the battery for an E62, a Nokia phone being promoted by Rogers, a local cable company. I have a collection of polite emails in which Rogers and Nokia.ca both state that the other should identify a source for the battery. In the end, I had a son, living in New York city, have one delivered from Nokiausa (free delivery).
Exploiting the US is a small price to pay for the benefits of living here. |
Re: N800 in Canada
One option is using Expansys.ca to order gadgets and accessories that are not sold directly in Canada; the company is an online retailer covering Europe and North America with local web sites. Things like batteries are always available.
I got my 770 from there last year, when no one else was offering it in Canada, although, I paid a premium for that. |

Re: N800 in Canada
I gonna to NYC next week, so wanna grab one N800 at the Nokia superstore. Is US warranty valid in Canada? How could I claim it (if smth wrong happens with my tablet)? Should I declare the tablet at the border and pay some duties? Any thoughts..

Re: N800 in Canada
Any retailers like tigerdirect are obtaining their 770s/800s through the US via normal channels (So far as I know) and are reselling them at a markup. Most likely your warranty is void.
I live in Toronto and drove to Troy Michigan and got my 770 at CompUSA. I've no desire to get an N800. mmax: I wasa good boy and claimed my 770. They only charge PST and had to have it declared under 'mp3 player' (the woman at customs laughed and said the system was so out of date MP3 Player was just added recently). Tell them it's "like a Palm Pilot" to avoid the rubber glove treatment. |
