I dunno what it is but some people just love their iphones hehe. Though I must admit capacitive is easier to get used to than the resistive screen imo.

About people and iPhone - 100% correct. the iPhone is easy, for a whole lot of people. After I got my iPhone3G, I gave my old 2g iphone (yeah, I had two of them, I'm an idiot) to my sister, a 40 years old american soccer mom, she likes it, her husband has one and he adores it... but I would expect a lot more out of techies like my boss and such, I mean, for me, as a tech enthusiast the iPhone just won't cut it.

About the screen - It's my first phone with a resistive screen and so far I like it, it's true that capacitive is way more sensitive but IMO nokia did an excellent job with the N900's screen. My friend has the nokia 8500 and I can't stand its screen. Even though they both are resistive, the N900's screen is supreme.

I got no problems with my N900 just wish the battery life was a lil better when always connected to IM networks.

Though I can definitely see why this device would not suit some people.

I generally call all things ****, pony.... Consequently my GFs iPhone is now named iPony.

"Though I must admit capacitive is easier to get used to than the resistive screen imo." - true :(

I must be weird because I honestly have had no issues with the resistive on the N900. If anything I find it way better than my G1 capacitive because my clicks in the browser are registered accurately etc. I dont find myself even having to press that much harder than I did on the G1 and others with CP screens. As far as resistive screens go the N900's is pretty amazing

Not disputing that the resistive screen is good, just that the touch of a capacitive screen is easier to get used to as no pressure is needed when using gestures etc. Of course the tradeoff with the capacitive screen is that using a stylus/finger nails is not possible. I only started using my nails on my n900 after I put on an invisible shield :p

I must be a brute or something, cause I don't consider myself to use pressure liek at all when I use the N900 screen.

Also, I dislike finger smudges on my screen, so I only use the nail.

This thread is made of win.
Just because apple lost another customer ;)

About what people say about the iphone, it really is true.. It's easier to learn and that's probably why somuch people like it and worship it.
There are alot of apps out there for the iphone and they're all easy to use.
However for techies (like us?) it really is shitty. We just smell and feel the constraints we have to live by when using an iphone, it could be so much better.. And that's where the N900 comes in ;D

I'm 20 year old.
I'm a devoted linux user and an apple hater.
I'm getting my N900 this week.

This probably wasn't one of the most useful posts, but i hope I contributed.

I agree but I think the rigid nature of the iphone will limit it's userbase once phone makers start cranking out more phones.

To contrast with your experience, my wife hates the iphone because of the lack of keyboard, she hates typing with the virtual keyboards. She was adamant I find her a phone with a keyboard. I got her the e71 and she fell in love with it, the bold 9700 was a close runner up and she skipped the e72 because she read a few reviews that said it was a bit buggy.

So once more choices are available and standards are in place it'll be interesting to see what happens.
