Do your here something when you shake your phone next to your ear?

I, too, hear something when I do as you say. Probably the service manuals floating around on the net could shed some more information into it. Ah well, I figure the phone will get shaken about in daily use anyway so I guess it's no consquence to me if it shakes whilst jogging or the like. :)

Could be a loose sim card slot or micro sd card slot.

I removed the backcover to get a closer look at the sd-card slot. When I put my finger on it while shaking the phone, there is no noise anymore.

It would be interesting what the official warranty statement of nokia is in this matter. Most likely they don't allow jogging, even if there are no moving parts inside the phone.

I don't work for Nokia so this is just a guess, but I think that jogging with the device in your pocket should not exceed g-force limits specified for a portable device. Common sense says this, and unless jogging/running is something they have specifically disallowed, they will have a hard time claiming otherwise.

Due to the weight of the thing though, I don't see myself taking it with me when I go running...

Is that a fact for all accelerometers? or just the N900's one?
If just for the N900, can you link it's specs?

You misunderstood. Someone pointed out, that the sound could come from the accelerometer. I said, that this would not be possible.
It is not about the accelerometer at all, that I am afraid of the stress for the device while jogging.
Soldering points are not very shock resistant instead. So this could be an issue to think about.

Camera shutter could also make sounds I can only imagine.
It's very tempting to have a 32g mp3 player to run with, that has EQ, phone and everything - But I would not run with it.

I use a ipod suffle 1GB with no screen on shuffle mode for my runs.
I got a python script that allows me to skip the ITunes pain in the ***.

I have no stress. my fujitsu t830 had survive to this environmenthttp://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php...1&d=1268595662 and I expect my n900 do the same.
