Re: OpenVPN + Media player + DLNA/UPnP
OpenVPN + Wizard Mounter have worked well. Secondary to my large collection of media and files, I only mount specific directories (depending what I intended to access, Docs, Podcasts, Music, Video, etc.) to 'speed-up' the browsing experience on my N810w.

Although I do agree that knots is great, it would be nice if upnp worked over openvpn. I tried and achieved partial success, more details in this bug report.

Re: OpenVPN + Media player + DLNA/UPnP
I've not had a chance to actually try this yet but I thought others might like to know about this link which someone pointed out to me just now:
http://www.radak.org/2010/04/20/mult...th-tap-bridge/ At some point I plan to give this a whirl (and maybe futz around with ssh-agent too) to see if it can be made to persuade the uPNP discovery to work. (See the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Plug_and_Play and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_...overy_Protocol pages for more info, though it's not brilliant.) |
Re: OpenVPN + Media player + DLNA/UPnP
Well, stone the crows. After peering at my above link a little and trying to understand it I simply ran the command:
sudo route add -net 239.255.255.250 dev tap0 on my Linux box at home, brought up the OpenVPN connection on my N900 and started Media Player and, lo and behold, there was my MediaTomb icon. On my machine the tap0 interface is the one which the OpenVPN server creates, you can see this in ifconfig's output and it's the 'dev' line in your /etc/openvpn/server.conf file. Woohoo. Now all I need to do is to see how to get things like shuffling and playlists to work. |
Re: OpenVPN + Media player + DLNA/UPnP
Oh, one more thing here. It looks like this works over wifi but not over gprs. A quick bit more googling shows that this:
http://my.anuson.com/knowledgebase/4...VPN-setup.html might have some clues; I think I need to add the default gateway. However I can't seem to get the stuff in that link to work. Hmmm... |
