By using the 'settings/edit/add' function i reckon you could add in your own conversions for weight/length/anything .... just need to work out how it would work ... it would save me having this installed and 'Gonvert' app ...

Also if i knew how to add in my own ones such as cm - inch it would be wayyyy better than 'Gonvert' as with 'Gonvert' you have to scroll down many many many possible conversion outcomes to get to the one you want the result on as in example with Gonvert section for 'Length' there are over 100 possible outcomes! This is fine for the occasion when you need a conversion on the odd occasion but for someone who needs a particular conversion on a constant daily basis it is a lot of fiddly scrolling to get your desired result.

SASLER ..can you provide any kind of instruction for how to add conversions in, if you give an example for length conversion from cm - inch, the ratio's are

cm x 0.39* = inch
inch x 2.54 = cm

how would i add this into your app???

cheers and super app!

Gonvert - it does all that and way more, so many conversions its seriously overkill because you have to scroll to just find the simple ones :D

Currently all currencies are compared to Euro. So if neither of the currencies is Euro, it will fist convert to that and then convert it to the destination currency. So in theory you could add the following:
Currency: inc (NOTE: it must 3 letters and having it lower case would differentiate it from regular currencies)
Description: Inch
Rate: 2.54
After that you should choose inc and EUR and pretend that the Euro would be cm.

Of course, this is ugly hack. But if there is enough interest, unit conversion feature could be added in the next version. :) It shouldn't be too difficult to do. The only problem is that I'm running out of button space... hmm... Then again, I could split the Update and Settings buttons in half, but them on the bottom row and then add similar sized conversion buttons in the row above it...

Or better still, remove the Update and Settings buttons altogether and add those in the Menu instead. Also I would rather keep the currency and unit tables separate, so that one would not need to scroll too much to find the needed unit.

Re: [Announce] Currency Converter

Ok, I think i have worked out how to do it!

when in currency converter do the following

1) click 'settings'
2) click 'edit'
3) in the 3 blank spaces on the right enter the following details
Currency = CM
Rate = 1
Decription = Centimetres
4) click 'add'
again in the 3 blank spaces on the right now enter the following details
Currency = INC
Rate = 0.39
Decription = Inches
5)click 'add'
6) click close
7) select 'CM' in left hand lelection scroller
8) select 'INC' in right hand selection scroller
9) click 'apply'
10) convert away!
ps. It seems sometimes when setting this up to make it work i have to go back into settings/edit then select CM then renter the number '1' in the rate box then click modify?

As far as i can see you can now only convert up from the CM side as that is using the base of '1', you can add into the right hand column any unit you wish to convert a cm up or down to such as:
if you want to convert a cm to a yard enter a new selection as YRD with rate 0.010936133 in the right hand side selector.

This is good to do to create a couple of converters you may use on a daily basis but for more than a few different converters it wont work as it will get confusing tracking things,
ie
  • if you have cm on left and inches and yards on the right will work ok for all conversions
  • but if you then add inches on the left and try to convert that using the 'yard' setting you have on the right it wont work because the yard conversion is set to the CM ratio

Sasler, if you were to add a unit converter in the future I would for one be interested to see how you implement it, I would keep it simple with regular units of measurement OR an option to select which units appear in your scrolling selection list in main view (if you know what I mean)

Nice one!

Look the posts above. ;) Basically it's using Euro which is always 1 and not your CM. :)

I get ya, nice and easy but it looks a lot better on the eye when you see:
CM --> INC
rather than
EUR --> INC

nice one :)

Re: [Announce] Currency Converter

Rethinking it, using your way (Euro's selection on the left hand side) would be better for multiple conversions as you could add as many extra conversions as you wanted and name the 2nd column extended part name as
cm -> inch's
cm -> metres
grams -> oz's
inch's -> cm
*C -> *F
km -> miles
etc etc and just use the item on the left as a whole (1) and add the conversion in for each one.

Anyway, well impressed with your app .... it does what it says on the tin ..... and more!!!!
Nice!

Re: [Announce] Currency Converter

I got a new version (0.5-1) in Extras-devel, which includes these much requested help files. ;) But the question is: should I promote it to Extras-testing and loose all the votes and reset the 10 day guarantee time in the process? :confused:

The 1-2 days I might loose with the guarantee time, is OK. But I'm not so sure if people are willing to vote again for this app.

Any thoughts? To promote or not to promote?
