neboja, try actually explaining your problem clearly, instead of just nagging.
What hardware, protocols, etc? |

Re: How To Create A WiFi Dialup on N900?
Why people always respond to this with "get a router" or "lol it doesnt have ethernet" is just beyond me. I've had the same issue for some time now and I haven't resolved it yet thanks to such people, because every thread about it everywhere on the net looks the same. First for Symbian, now for Maemo. For the not-making-sense part - it's possible to use PPPoE via WLAN. Guess you didn't know that. In fact, many wireless providers around here use that system. Maybe that's not the best solution, but that's what they're using, and that's what I would like to be able to use. So a router won't solve my problems (I have one already, but I don't intend to carry it around with me), and I don't want to plug ethernet cable in my N900. So a very simple question - does anyone know how to setup PPPoE on Maemo? I used "pppoeconf" and "pon/poff" on Ubuntu and expected it to be present here also, but it isn't. If anyone knows how to to install it, or some alternative, info would be appreciated.

Re: How To Create A WiFi Dialup on N900?
The thing is, that is a very convoluted setup and I would argue very uncommon.
Most UK ISPs use PPPoA but the router deals with all that. If you actually have to connect via PPP from the PC then in fact you aren't configured as a router at all, its just acting as a plain modem. Its an aweful configuration as usually then only one computer will be able to connect at a time. So as people keep saying, you would be far better off getting a good router to do the PPPoE as then you only need to connect your computers and N900 to that router and forget all about PPP. Unless of course you mean public access points in Cafes, Airports, etc force you to use PPP, then I suppose you will need to find a solution. But the fact is hardly anyone is going to need PPP on their N900 so getting help on how to do it will be tricky. |
Re: How To Create A WiFi Dialup on N900?
Hold on a moment, has anyone thought about this way of going about it..
Laptop with wlan card, and the guy has dial up internet. So... Internet connection sharing is enabled on the dial up connection, which is shared via his wifi card on the laptop using an adhoc network. What he wants to possibly do is connect to the adhoc network and connect his dial up from the N900 instead of opening up his laptop in another room? Andy |
