Re: Email

so, here's a simple detour you could take:
create a googlemail account. let this new mailaccount grab the e-mails from your provider's account - or enable mail forwarding to the new googlemail account in your existing one (if supported). now you can setup your N900 with IMAP (which you have to enable in your configuration on googlemail.com first) ... you should take the IMAP variation because with your outlook you can enjoy all the advantages provided by IMAP (idle command)

Re: Email

and your problem with sending mails only on wifi:
check your e-mail-account settings on the N900. there's an option on which type of connection the account should be updated - set this value to "every connection" / "any connection" (don't know the exact translation) :-)

Hey, thanks for this but I've got that setting and it still won't send emails via 3G nor 2G. As soon as I connect to WiFi they send no problem.

Apparently Virgin/Blueyonder (my provider) have recently been migrating to IMAP servers and, although they're saying that POP3 should still work the same I guess there might be some issues as I've changed to IMAP and I seem to be able to get emails on my N900 and also at home on my PC :-)

But I still can't get the damn thing to send emails via 3G or 2G! Would this be a Vodafone (my mobile provider) issue?

Re: Email

Vodafone might block sending mail through other servers than their own. Many ISPs do to reduce spam. Try checking their website for instructions.

In your N900 email settings there's a button for 'SMTP-servers'. There you can define the outgoing server for eacht connection. I have to use a different outgoing server too whether I am connected to my homewifirouter or my 3G provider.
