No one that I know of would listen to a track for 5-16 hrs.... this was a TEST.

Like I said in the first post wlan was off bluetooth was off.

Could you please run this test and post your results so we have some data for comparison, thank you.

Was it an MP3 file that you played, and if so, what was the bitrate? If I'm not mistaken, most DAP'S have better battery life when using 128k or lower MP3 files.

Also, was the audio file stored on one of the SD cards, or was it internal?

I'm just trying to think of the different things that might have caused this poor battery life...

man, if I could get more than two hours continous play off my two year old ipod I'd be happy.

Why not, I do. I've got a pillow speaker that I use with my 770 to fall asleep to music. Never really tried it with the unit running off of power, never though it would last the night, but evidently the 770 probably could from what I'm seeing in this post.

It is a x-mp3 320k 4MB file that Nokia had installed with the media player.

ok I apologize for being coarse, ignorant, and rude....

Admittedly, I am less concerned with battery life
because I have an extra charged battery in my wallet at all times,
and a solar battery charger that trickles enough into my N800 so that it maintains charge under use without draw on the batter for an extra 3 hours (not quite enough juice to actually fully charge though)....

I have a car charger for Mapper, and a brick charger both at home and at work...
I have these means because the 770 / N800 really don't hold a charge THAT long.

I don't use my Nokia as a phone, and I don't really use it as a portable mp3 player for more than an hour or so.
I use it as a portable computer- an internet tablet...

I am curious about how the N800's battery life compares to the 770, though I probably don't have the patience or sincere curiosity enough to run my baby down to the ground doing a repetitive task that I otherwise have no need to accomplish.

With that, I will butt out of this thread!

cheers

Tried playing a random playlist with 128-192kbit mp3 and aac files. Got around 10 hours of playback. Probably with an mp3-only playlist the battery would have lasted even longer.

This sounds about right to me...I think that 320k MP3 was what led to the decreased battery life for heavyt. I wouldn't have guessed the difference would be that much, though...

10 hours of playback sounds much better than my 5 hours, maybe it was the 320kbit file that was used for my test. Thanks zuti for your data.
