Re: SHOULD maemo.org have a mascot?
50 days sounds excessive to me. I liked the comment I saw today from a Chinese premier: "Black cat, white cat, who cares? As long as it catches mice." From which I got the moral: Don't agonize over trivia, just go with what works.

Re: SHOULD maemo.org have a mascot?
I'm really in no great rush. The discussion that spawned this has gone on for quite some time (and lest ye correct me, as seems to be your mission in life, the sense of urgency expressed in the prior thread was pure tongue in cheek).
And the point of this thread is to get a sense of "what works", 50 days being what I felt a reasonable time to capture the eyeballs and thoughts of plenty of members. |

Come on community, vote! If you don't care, at least select that option. ;)

fractals .... have you ever been a mascot? :)

Re: SHOULD maemo.org have a mascot?
Great things can come from having a mascot... but with a bad execution it can easily backfire too.
So, um, I guess what I'm saying is that it will highly depend on the implementation. |
Re: SHOULD maemo.org have a mascot?
The "ae" wtitten ∞ "infinity like" is smooth enough in my opinion. If there's to be a mascot PLEASE don't let it be some annoying animal (penguin, pigeon, etc)
But btw, for all you non-latin language speakers out there: "ae" is pronounced "e", the latin way like in the following words: "buena", "metro", "metronome", message" - the reason I say this is because most Nokian (made by nokia with people from Nokia) did not spell this right. |
Re: SHOULD maemo.org have a mascot?
Just be careful. It should not be a penguin or furry animal.
I vote Yes for a recognizable Logo with no letters as a "mascot". Remember not everyone that like something is a fanatic. |

Most Nokians probably pronounced it just right. Nokia is from Finland where people speak Finnish in which ae is not pronounced in the latin way. The person who came up with the name in the first place is Spanish, and the pronounciation in Spanish is very similar to the Finnish one. More about this here. |
