Re: Use N900 as a Wireless dongle
I'm in a similar situation. The N900 connects fine to the wifi network but is there any way to connect my pc to the wifi network via the N900?

Re: Use N900 as a Wireless dongle
In the discussion below I assume that your laptop is also running Linux. If you are running Window your are on your own.
The solution is two step. 1. Setup IP over USB between the N900 and your laptop. 2. Make your N900 route traffic from your laptop to WiFi. I have been trying to do something similar, make the N900 use the wired ethernet connection of a desktop at a site without wifi access, but still without success. I managed to do the step 1 above as follows: On n900: ifup usb0 route del -net 0.0.0.0 gw 192.168.2.14 On Linux desktop: /sbin/ip address add 192.168.2.14/24 dev usb0 /sbin/ip link set dev usb0 up /sbin/route add -host 192.168.2.15 dev usb0 You should now be able to do a couple of "route commands" to instruct the desktop (or the n900 in your case) to forward ip traffic coming over the USB cable. But as I said I haven't got it to work. |
Re: Use N900 as a Wireless dongle
Thanks! It's a work PC I'm trying to get it to work on (with a frustratingly flakey internet connection that they don't seem to be able to sort out but with a different WiFi network available that seems to be fine).
I'm afraid that means it's running Windows XP. |
Re: Use N900 as a Wireless dongle
Theoretically its possible, but I am not sure the N900 has the correct software to configure it to tunnel data in this way. Getting the N900 to use a PC for Internet access it most certainly can do, doing the opposite is quite different however.
Also bear in mind Wifi adapters are only £10.99 and possibly pick one up even cheaper on eBay. |
