for completeness sake, i should point out that $1.99 is the regular price for the app in itunes store, with FIVE level packs. And if i'm not mistaken, the app only showed for at $1.99 for 1 week out of the 2+ months it's been in the market and it's now back on sale.

That brings another important point of AppStore practice: variable pricing. It is very common for AppStore vendors to have 2 or even 3 common price points that they use depending on the market conditions and internal targets and switch quickly between them on weekly basis.

So don't take the $2.99 price as a constant value.

Re: App Prices

£6 seems reasonable all things considered.

There is a massive market for iPhone apps, therefore the price is lower.

So definitely £3 is an amount that can be thrown at something without much consideration.
.

Well not really i have so far downloaded about 15 apps mainly games, some extra codecs etc etc. £3 may be something you can just throw at something but if this were the case i already would have spent £45 on apps.

I cant believe people think that £6 would be reasonable, either way we have discovered it would prob not be that much. I have no problem in paying for apps in fact now i know the level pack is more than just a few extra levels I will more than likely give over my hard earned cash. i still think £3 for something that might not be the full game is still too pricey but that is my opinion. Maybe im a cheapskate

I played the demo of angry birds and thoroughly enjoyed it. i suggested to my brother, who has an iphone, to try it out. He quickly completed the game and downloaded the extra levels from app store for 69p. Bargain i thought! When i saw a thread on this site yesterday saying Ovi store paid apps was back online, i logged in straight away to purchase extra levels. Then i saw the price. Not a chance for £3. and definitely not considering its not even the complete pack.

I'm sorry. Whilst i can understand all the arguments being used regarding user base difference between Iphone & N900, i still cannot accept the over inflated price difference for this app. I dont know who is responsible for the pricing structure, but i seriously hope this is not what we can hope to expect with future pricing on ovi store.

Here in Norway the Angry Birds level pack costs 30 NOK, which equals £3.31 or $5! :(

We'll have to see how much Nokia wants to appease their carrier partners to take advantage of their existing billing system. I (think) I've read that they want the Ovi Store to be able to bill your purchases directly to your telephone bill. That means the carrier will want some % cut from the revenue for this service, and as far as I know they usually want big % because they're used to products/services with high profit.

On the plus side, if this pans out, we won't be bothered with entering our credit card details on purchases. We just have to brace for our monthly phone bills (plus apps).

You have a $500 phone and can't afford 3 euros/pounds/whatever for a quality game for it?

I would suggest that you reevaluate the way you distribute your purchasing power, except that, as you just pointed out, because most everything for N900 is free, paying 3 euros total for an awesome game and getting 15 apps as a bonus is a pretty sweet deal.

I guess i'm from a different generation, and having not owned an iPhone i'm not used to prices on that: i expect to pay $10-30 on a game. I don't buy a game often, but when i discover one that i really like, i buy it. Even $30 for something i'm going to play for 10+ hours is a steal.

Rather than compare the price to the iPhone price, which is silly because you'd have to walk around with an iPhone for that to be a useful comparison, i would suggest that the more valid comparison is what the previous poster suggested: as a way of spending your "entertainment budget" that's more enduring than eating out once.

Your missing my point If every commercial app is going to be £3 then i am going to be paying a lot of extra cash a month for apps. As i have said i have downloaded 15 apps pretty much the first night getting the phone. If there were all were all £3 then i would not have bothered.

To put it in perspective i pay 45 a month on a contract phone with vodaphone, i like many i would imagine could not afford the £400 outright. I use my phone a lot for a stupid amount of calls and texts.
Those 15 apps alone would have cost the same as my price plan. effectively making my monthly phone cost £90 a month.

I can here you saying well get less apps. wella gain this brings me to my point will people shy away from commercial apps because they are too expensive. if this is the case will commercial developers shy away from the device as no one is buying their overpriced apps

Angry birds is good dont get my wrong i really like it but i have spent way more time playing zelda on VGBA then i ever will angry birds.

VGBA is free and has a vast amount of games for it.

Angry Birds had its first part free which was great i finished it on a train journey (not all stars). the second half is now £3 and its not even the complete game.

The reason i compared the price to the Iphone is because its the same game! It could have been any OS not just the iphone. Yes there are costs in porting this over but i have never known Sony or Xbox games developers to charge the customer extra when porting a game.

When Bioshock was released on the PS3 do you really think it would have sold the same level if they charged the customer extra. "im sorry this was originally for the xbox and its costing us extra to SELL you the game, so we are going to make you pay the difference"

Funny enough, if you look here, the original price for Bioshock XBOX360 is 19.99, whereas for PS3 it was 39.99. Amazon are also selling Bioshock 2 for the 360 for less than for the PS3 (though the RRP does seem to be the same there).

"Classics edition" is a badge used for reprints of older 'hits' at a lower price. I believe they all retailed at $54.99 or thereabout on first release.

The reprints go for $15-25.
