It can handle many higher capacity SD cards, provided they don't follow the HC specs. I have 2 4GB cards in mine, following this advice:

Yes, 4GB SD cards will work using the stock Nokia kernel. Search for SDHC and you'll find a very long thread with working and non-working SD and SDHC cards.

It can handle normal (non-SDHC) cards up to 4GB. Anything larger than that must be SDHC. I wouldn't be too worried about messing up the device flashing a new kernel, but then I'm familiar with Linux and use the command-line flasher on a Linux (Ubuntu) system and can re-flash the old one easily. Theoretically that's your biggest risk-- having to reflash your device.

I got two 8GB SDHC 150x Samsung OEM cards on ebay from a fast supplier that got them to me in Southern Spain in less than a week. They were $150 USD including postage and was not charged any duty or taxes which is great. They work great with the SDHC kernel patch and boots in 28 seconds compared with 38 seconds for the internal Flash. I have sucessfully copied 6GB's of Pictures and Music onto each card and have not seen any problems.

I am confused. I thought...

2GB/4GB 150x (read speed 22.5mb/s)
and
4GB-8GB SDHC (2, 4, 6, 8 class, read speed 2mb/s, 4mb/s, 6mb/s, 8mb/s)

So my question is... Isn't SDHC a lot slower than 150x?

Just a warning about eBay - there are an awful lot of fake memory cards being sold so be very very careful when buying from eBay.

Try Googling for "fake ebay memory"...

I'm not suggesting these are fake, and I'm glad they appear to be working OK but "150x" isn't a recognised SDHC speed rating as far as I'm aware. It sounds as though someone is applying an SD speed rating to an SDHC card, which is a little suspicious.

Class 2/4/6 (2/4/6MB/s) refers to the WRITE speed.

There is a speed test thread on this forum which showed the N800 SDHC read speed to be about 7.9MB/s. Further read speed improvements may be possible with addition kernel tweaking (eg. increase bus speed etc.).

That should be write speed. SDHC speed class does not care about read speed. And that write speed is minimum guaranteed speed with continuous writes (i.e not random short writes which may be faster).

Having said that, there may be SDHC cards with slower read or write speed than 150x SD ones.

Yes you guys are absolutely write about ebay (which is why I did not mention names) and lets just say I did my research. I got the memory about two weeks ago and at the time there were only a handful of people selling 8GB cards. The people I purchased from had a ridiculous amount of positive feedback and the cost was the same as a 4GB card but what swung it for me was the paypal guarantee. Once they arrived I immediately copied 6GB of stuff to and from them ensure they were ok.

I am fully aware that the SDHC spec states 2/4 or 6MBs sustained write speeds and I hope to do a proper speed test soon but that is how they were advertised. I will say that they have cheap (possibly photocopied or colour laser) labels but I suppose you get what you pay for. I have spent quite a bit of money on memory for this and that over the years but it always comes back to one thing you can always use extra space.

I heard Nokia is coming out with a new firmware with LOTS of new goodies and tweaks. What are the chances SDHC will be in there?
