Re: N800 - Suffers from the WSOD

Folks, not trying to create panic or concern, just the opposite.

I've actually seen this on my N800. Sometimes it's white, sometimes it's got some vertical "perforated" lines, and sometimes it's sort of multicolored. Either way, it's as described above, and I get it on boot.

What I've noticed is that it only (but not always) happens IF THE POWER IS PLUGGED IN after the battery had died. Once it happens, I've found that the only real way to get rid of the problem is

1) Allow the system to sit in this WSOD mode with the power plugged in for a few minutes (to somewhat charge the battery)
2) Remove the power and the battery
3) Wait a minute or two
4) Insert the battery and boot into the OS fully
5) Then, and only then, reinsert the power cord to charge the unit

It appears, and I'm not an expert here, so this is my speculation, that there is a "miniOS" that is booted and displays that center charging icon that is shown when the unit is plugged in but not turned on. I believe that "miniOS" has some sort of video driver bug in it.

Again, that's just speculation, and possibly some hint for some Nokia folks to look into. However, even thought I've received this WSOD on my Nokia N800 many times, I've always been able to recover. It does, in fact, look as the description given for the 770, so please don't beat up us N800 folks that fear the worst. This is a scary problem, since it is somewhat complicated to get rid of.
