I must disagree with that comparison!

I bought my fone based on what it did at the time and whether I thought that was suitable for me, which is probably why I'm not that bothered about future support for it. Sure some more apps would be nice, but whatever happens happens. I feel a bit sorry for those who bought the device based on speculation of what might become, but surely in this day and age people know better..

Now that the browsing is better and the virtual keyboard doesn't suck anymore, all I care about is Flash Player 10.1. :)
It's pretty much perfect for me now.

Yes and no... it's not really unreasonable to speculate that Nokia, having released a brand new operating system, would continue to build devices that use it. Such a string of devices would drive further development and maintenance of the OS and hence keep it alive and fresh with new features and fixes. Nokia instead have just dropped it in favour of MeeGo which will presumably have a string of devices... who knows, they might just drop that one dead too!

I bought my N900 speculating on this, not that MeeGo would be made available. I think that MeeGo should be made available now that they've dropped Maemo in such an insanely short space of time - but that isn't what I originally hoped for when I got it - it hadn't even been announced when I did. This is an expensive and capable piece of hardware with much room to expand and grow - it's not unreasonable to expect it to do so and I wouldn't call that speculation, just reasonable expectation based on cost and size of manufacturer, compared to other computing goods and hardware's track records (in similar and different areas).

It won't work!! You think Nokia cares, they already got our $$, now it's time for them to make us get Meego through another phone.

This is probably true, although it's probably more down to the business model for mobile technology than any sort of moral or ethical standpoint.

Right now it seems like we're going through a transition from fones being something that you have for 12 months then replace to something that is set to last you 2 or more years..

In this "day and age" People know that two massive corporations are vying for control of the mobile phone market with app based shops that support all old phones running that OS (All Iphone and the ipad have to be able to use all their apps. Android 2.2 will play most if not all of the previous apps if you update one or two pieces of software, with only a small % needing to be scrapped. MS Marketplace trying to do the same for Winmo. 6.0, 6.1, 6.5 and 7.0 (Though badly)

So if you compare what Nokia are trying to do on paper, they should at least be equal to them if they want to compete in this decade. Maemo has been born and died on the N900 as before that Maemo 4 was on what phones?.

The merit of a petition is good, but Nokia have put the writing on the wall. "Maemo is dead, Meego lives, if you bought a phone and believed the hype then you're a dumb ***." (Granted the last is my interpretation of their efforts to fix the ovi suite, ovi maps offers etc.)

WE WERE PROMISED a brand new OS (Harmattan) that would involve, among others, FULL PORTRAIT MODE SUPPORT.

We were promise Flash 10.1 when it was demonstrated online by Nokia and Adobe!

Many people bought their N900s based on these promises!

This is somewhat ILLEGAL and infuriating. We should make a petition. It will not do much. The best it could do is to push them to make Maemo 5 with full portrait mode.

They promised it for N900? :) I'm sure it'll come, but not for N900, officially.

I am not talking about Meego1, I am talking about Maemo6. That was PROMISED.

We were also promised ovi maps 3 capabilities "Eventually".
