Edit/remove the /etc/apt/preferences file.

I wish whoever is responsible for whichever app is causing this would get it sorted out. This issue is coming up repeatedly.

Still not working for me.
  • Launching Application Manager = Error : "Operation failed"
  • Checking for updates = Error: "Operation failed"
  • Download option = "(no applications available)"
  • Try to install apps from Ovi Store = Error : "Unable to download '(apps)'. Application package not found"

Anyway to overcome without reflashing? I tried turning it off and on and even removing battery.

How does one Edit/remove the /etc/apt/preference file?

If you've got rootsh installed then removing it's just a matter of doing:
Code:

root
rm /etc/apt/preferences

Unless you know exactly what you're doing, I wouldn't recommend trying to edit the file. You'll probably find that removing it will result in whatever customised packages you've got installed (alternate hildon-desktop for example) being removed. In this case, you'd be best just filing a bug against either the package itself (if you installed it directly) or against whatever tool you used to install it. Hopefully then the author will actually fix the issue and it'll stop cropping up every week.

Oh, and if you don't have rootsh installed then you'll probably need to reflash.

I haven't done any development stuffs and am hoping to avoid it. I'm trying to keep my N900 working for at least another 3 years :D

But from what I understand from your suggestion, should I try uninstalling the most recent applications instead?
