Normally it's not the stylus itself that scratches the screen. Scratches are normally caused by bits of dirt either on the screen or on the stylus being squished into the screen when you move your stylus over it.

Secondly install Faster Application Manager from the pre-installed Application Manager. as the name suggests this is much faster than the normal app manager in installing and uninstalling apps from the different repositories.

from extras-devel?!? get real....

(OP, do not do that no matter how much it tempts you. it could ruin your device and then you are forced to learn how to reflash)

I don't notice whether I use extras or extras-devel. Faster Application Manager seems to be brilliant. And it haven't ruined my phone.

But yes, a newbie needs first to learn how to flash the device (and to get the latest firmware version on the device) and only then to get applications from extras-devel.

Besides updating firmware, I have already re-flashed my N900 once, as N900 couldn't turn on for unknown reason, and all is correct now.

So, don't be afraid; first get PC suite the latest version, then Nokia Software Updater (it's integrated with PC suite), update firmware on N900 (don't forget to have N900 fully charged beforehand; it will be terrible if N900 gets 0% charge in the middle of updating firmware), and go on, install applications from extras, and later, when you can use X Terminal and 'gain root' without ruining the device, extras-devel.

i have PR1.2 and i tried updating it but it says no need to update. Anyways i have extras-devel and nothing happen with my phone. I just want too know how too make my screen more sensitive because i find it not too good. Since its open sources, can one of you ppl make a app that makes it like a captive screen? I would really appreciated. i got this phone after my iphone i was soo pissed off at it i threw it out of my car. anyways i kinda got used to the screen and loved the screen but hate apple. if you guys could make a app that can make it captive, i would reaaaaaally appreciaited or make a app that makes the screen suprrremly sensitve. Thanks guyss!!

I think it's not possible to make it *work* like capactive screen even though I admit I do like how capactive screen works. But it many other ways there's a lot of applications that can improve a person's daily usage, my work focuses heavily on linux enviroment and having this phone was a blessing to me. The blessing is greater than the cons. Perhaps I'm waiting for a meego phone with capactive screen and everything will be whole.

do you have aim or msn? i can show you the ropes if you want

btw it's impossible to turn a resistive screen into capacitive, that's that saying you want to install software on your ipad to turn it into a macbook

Have you tried recalibrating the screen ("Screen calibration" in the control panel) with very light taps? Doing so might affect screen sensitivity.

I learned that one ergonomic suggestion is to use the tip of one's fingernail:

This makes scrolling and some button presses more precise and require less force; it is an improvement so far.

you just need to access internet and use your application manager on your N900 :)
I think you should practice a little ;)

Quick reply...
MeeGo is coming replacement of Nokia's Maemo and Intel's Moblin.
N900 is going to get MeeGo, too, but MeeGo isn't released yet.
So, don't sell N900 until you see a device which has better compatibility with MeeGo. N900 is said to be the reference device for MeeGo used by developers of MeeGo in alpha stage of development. Some people on talk.maemo.org have already managed to install MeeGo on N900.
