Re: Nokia U

A little bit off-topic (after watching W7 pics) but:
Except Nokia Geeks (thanxs danramos, very good definition) a bunch of we want a phone based on Android, rooted and with keyboard (perhaps resistive or high-def capacitative screen), I'm right or wrong?
ALL the N900 wonders are not based on maemo itself, are based on a rooted phone with Linux kernel. But Maemo, really? Yeah... it comes with Xterm... nice.

Why no kickstand?

And this megapixel fetish on the camera -- 12MP on a camera phone -- is just counterproductive.

Especially if it's going to be a phone, it would be preferable to have more hardware buttons, even if that's not the trend.

They "look nice," but I'm a function-over-form guy (if you gotta have a trade-off); and more hardware buttons and A KICKSTAND would be functional.

I like the screen-size/form-factor combination.

Yeah, IMO 12MP on a mobile phone with all its limitations is absurd.

Slower to save, slower to process, slower to share, takes more space, and not even with necessarily better image quality.

Here's hoping to more hardware keyboards...

Ok looks like most of you decided to criticize Nokia for the lack of originality when it comes to design, but let's face it: when you design a touch phone there's not much room for creativity. I mean look at the phones that are already on the market, aren't they all pretty much the same?? HTC, iPhone, Samsung, SE - all monoblock handsets with a slim waist, a big screen covering most of the front side and one or more hardware keys on the bottom. The tendency is to create a touch screen as big as possible (because bigger is better) while making the body as thin as possible. Now how can you follow that recipe and still come up with a radically different design?
Now I'm not defending Nokia, but that's how things are right now.

I have to agree with the guy who complained about the limited choices when we were asked to vote. I'm now baffled to see a concept that envisions a ridiculously powerful handset with a width of only 8mm. Even today, there's no way you can cram all that in such a small space!

Now let me just say this... the BEST phone would simply be our beloved N900 with a nice slim waist and upgraded hardware - am I right? :D

Re: Nokia U

Unoriginal designs very evolutionary

1- N8 evolution
2- X6 evolution
3- iphone at the front with a lens slide E71 as the back

Then again, the actual phone shape design really doesnt matter that much to most people. Look at the iphone - thats not exactly original. Samsung Galaxy S etc.. Theres only a limited things you can do for a non keyboard candy bar format I guess..

Re: Nokia U

12 megapixel? 5 megapixels are more than enough. they propably should think about making the sensors better?!

anyway: no hardware-keyboard? good i guess, a reason not to buy any of these devices. i plan on keeping my n900 as long as possible.

/edit: btw, what does "auto-on lens cover" mean? are they opening and closing automatically? its obvious for the first device (the n8-looking one), but what about the others?

Nokia at least is still building all metallic (aluminium) phones while Samsung flagship that costed me 630 euros is as plastic as you can get and iphones whole back is plastic aswell.

As far as i'm concerned i want N9 to be copy E7/N8-01 design and just put more powerful processor, higher reso screen and Meego inside and i'm done.

Just don't touch the aluminum around the case! ;)
