You can do this with GParted on Linux too, but the Problem is with the n900, I think.

If you open xterm and run dmesg you might see I/O error messages like I posted above.
The N900 can read and write to it, but may or may not hit an I/O error whilst doing so. So sometimes I can listen to a music file, sometimes I can't. :/

Seems that this problem affects a few people. I don't really fancy splashing out on a class 4 or higher card just to experiment. Perhaps I'll buy one when 32GB class 6 cards are a tenner.

Yes. I've tried partitioning and formatting the card every which way including not having a partition at all. It's currently ext3 but that makes no difference.

Yeah I would think its the class of the card. Try class 4 or 6. I think they work the best.
I stopped using sandisk when my sandisk titanium stopped working all of a sudden :P
I don't think formatting it would make any difference but yeah Its worth a try.
I would say get a higher class of the sdhc.
I myself use lexar and it is working alright so far, no music stuttering or anything.. so far.. :)

I have a number of class 2 cards and cards I assume are class 1 (since they don't seem to have a class number) and they all work fine.. with the exception of the single card I'm having problems with...

The n900 should not be fussy, it should support all standards cards.. not class 4 or above, that would be ridiculous!

formatting using that sdcard.org tool had no effect.. I'm wondering if my card is defective.. though it is irritating that no other device I own seems to complain..

(I'm going to try it in my N810 now)
