Fortunately or unfortunately ? :) Anyway, the 4.7 link is a giveaway that some sort of 4.6/4.7 cross-install happened and upon removal of your 4.7 install the symlinks broke. Did you by any chance make/install anything Qt4.7 related ?

Which is the "4.7 link"?

Regarding other possible culprits besides the recent PyQt installs, I have only installed one PyGtk app with non-exotic dependencies. So it must be something I have installed and removed, and cannot remember.

EDIT: Could be digiaatweb, that is certainly WebKit related.

ls: libQtWebKit.so.4.7: No such file or directory

Something created that 4.7 link, it is not from the 4.6 Qt packages.

Anyway, that link is gone now, and I did not remove it, so it must have been the libqt4-webkit reinstall?
