I find black bars on the left and right of the screen far more annoying than a stretched image. In fact I can't even bear to watch anything that has black bars on the sides. Black bars on top and bottom I don't mind. I think it is because that is how basically all dvd and hi def movies I have seen are (aint it nice if hollywood that when all tv manufacturers switched to wide screen they decided to only film in ultra wide screen so you still get black bars).

4:3 stretched to 16:9 is much worse than pillarbox in my opinion :) I say maintain OAR wherever the black bars end up...

Most restaurants & bars who have a nice HDTV and won't pay for HD service, and have the 4:3 picture stretched just makes me shake my head and think of them as unsophisticated... it makes me want to program my N900 for their TV and change the format for them so that it looks correct :D

And those Cable networks who have "HD" channels where they pre-stretch 4:3 content, removing my ability to display it properly, and especially the ones who use that weirdo progressive stretching where the sides are stretched more than the middle (when the camera pans, it makes you feel sick), those people have a special place in hell :)

While I'm ranting, the HD channels that play "fake widescreen" non-HD content which has black bars on top and bottom, and also on the sides, that's just ridiculous. It makes me wonder if these people even watch the channels they broadcast.

Just in case nobody has mentioned, the SiB can play video in fullscreen by pressing f, as it's actually a frontend of mplayer. Therefore, you must select mplayer as default player in SiB to use the hotkeys in mplayer.

Also, in case you don't know, you can even do something else with your N900 while it's playing video fullscreen on TV. That's tip #44 of the N900: Useful Tips (a summary).

Just install kmplayer from extras repo and zoom/fit to screen video with buttons on right side. You can install it from application manager on your n900.

And this will forcibly stretch(Zoom) as you say the Video which will make the image look distorted for e.g- people looking fat, stretched screen etc ? So does it look natural ?

When zooming aspect ratio stays correct but you loose "information" because, well some of picture gets outside of screen. But you can use stretch (too thin or fat) if it doesn´t bother you. Just test application and see it yourself if it fits your needs.
