I'm sure op isn't interested anymore but someone else could be. Elinks stable sources from here got compiled fine and works well on my n900.
Binarie without SSL support.

^C or q quit Elinks browser and disconnect
^P, ^N scroll up, down
[ , ] scroll left, right
arrow up, arrow down select link
arrow right follow link
arrow left go back
g go to url
G go to url based on current url
/ search for text within page
? search back
n find next
N find previous
= document info
| header info
\ document source
d or D download
^ r or ^R reload
h global history
s or S Bookmark Manager
a or A add bookmark
