The N9 is an E7 form-factor with MeeGo. The above picture is 90% finished hardware.

Wait a few months, and your prayers will be answered.

Surely I'll buy a N9, but I think we'll have to wait a long time to get a good experienced meego product as maemo as for handsets today.

This E7 under maemo could be a very nice transition IMO.

Beyond driver and performance issues, the E7's display is only 640x360. Even if the closed source portions of Maemo 5 otherwise accept the E7's hardware, likely they will be broken by the display. The proprietary portions of Fremantle include enough hard coded assumptions about the N900's display to make system-wide portrait mode on the N900 unobtainable, after all.

I'll go a step further and hazard a guess that many of the existing apps in Extras would also dislike the reduced screen resolution of the E7. So, more breakage. More porting. More writing replacements. In the end, at best you'd wind up with a function-alike of Maemo 5 with a reduced app catalog.

Like previously said the screen is nHD and CPU is ARM11 680mhz and Broadcomm GPU. I don't think we will see Maemo inside E7 done by the community and i can already tell for certain that Nokia wont be doing it.

N9 with MeeGo-Harmattan is still partly Maemo product. Problem of course is that it's not even announced yet. :)

Then i suppose that nokia couldn't make two E7 with differents 4" LCD screen, 640x360 for symbian and 800x480 for maemo ? Is it really unthinkable ?

n900 has far better specs, exept the display and cam.so it would be a downgrade.
and symbian isn't open source(correct me if im wrong)so no port at all.
forget it

With the n9 on the way, yes.

In what (hardware) way would you think the E7 is a transition (okay, Clearblack/HDMI, but other than that) ?

I'll argue both points :) Display is lower res (clearblack notwithstanding), and cam is way below what the N900 has (I'll trade a few megapixels for focus any day). Symbian IS open source, but that won't help you in any significant way.
