Re: gPhoto . DSLR remote liveview and control + tethered shooting

Packages install and my canon DSLR is detected by gphoto2 when using gphoto2 --auto-detect. However I cannot get it to list photos or display a summary from the camera. I think this may be to do with me missing some dependencies along the way.

I will try and package up the dependencies and give it a go later today.

The libgphoto2 package is available if people want it. Simply private message me.

SUCCESS!

I have now got working gphoto2 on my n900. --capture-image works on full speed mode and i can list the abilities of the camera.

However --summary, --list-config and --list-files does not work at this point. There seems to a ptp protocol error.

I will continue playing if I have time over the weekend. When I get round to it I will upload the packages to extras-devel for people to use.

I have attached the gphoto2 deb file and i will find somewhere to host the libgphoto2 deb file later. NOTE: this is my first attempt at making debian packages, I have not tested them on the n900 only on scratchbox. libgphoto2 will take up about 2mb of root space. I am not responsible for anything to do with these packages.

If someone would like the libgphoto2 package before I find a place to upload it let me know.

Hello cocayden,
I am interested in testing the gphoto2 and libgphoto2 debian packages. I have downloaded gphoto2_2.4.10-1_armel.deb, but need to also install the libgphoto2 package.

I have used gphoto2 extensively on an Ubuntu based computer and have purchased a used n800 for the express purpose of using it to control my Nikon D70 in the field. I look forward to your prompt reply as to where I may be able to download the deb package for libgphoto2.

Thanks,
Carl

Re: gPhoto . DSLR remote liveview and control + tethered shooting

Hi guys,

just reporting here that I was able to take photos with my Canon EOS 300D and 5D Mark II with gphoto2 from N900.

Looks like gphoto2 recognizes the n900 internal camera storage device too and directs the commands there by default. I have to give the --port=usb option to command the Canon.

I took the latest gphoto2 and libgphoto2 sources from debian.org here. The earlier version, 2.4.6 that I tried, did not work.

http://packages.debian.org/source/ex...tal/libgphoto2
http://packages.debian.org/source/experimental/gphoto2

I built those in the Fremantle SDK modified to use the debian-squeeze devkit in order not to have to change the debianization of the packags. The packages were buildable with one minor change (had to change libltdl-dev dependency to libltdl7-dev). I also had to build cdk-5.0 and debhelper 7, since they were missing build-dependencies.

The other build-deps I was able to install from the extras repositories and the Fremantle SDK tools repository.

The host mode USB utility and kernel are also needed on the n900:

http://wiki.maemo.org/N900_Hardware_USB_Host

Now I'll just have to figure out how to make a sweet GUI for an intervalometer :)

Cheers,
Juha

Re: gPhoto . DSLR remote liveview and control + tethered shooting

I just discovered yesterday that an intervalometer exist on pyKake, but works via infrared. Maybe you can take a leaf out of their book to help with the USB host version of your intervalometer...

Would love to do the tethering. But it's a bit complicated to get it setup at this stage like you have described. If/when somebody makes this installable via app manager, I'll definately jump on board. There's a nice youtube vid of a time lapse showing ice cubes melting. Was that you?

Cheers,
Fred

Hey there, as I just found this post, I was willing to know if someone had the package will all the dependancies for gphoto2... cause' installing gphoto2 and libgphoto2 only give dependancies problems...
Thanks in advance =)

Could someone upload a porting of libgphoto2 for n900? The gphoto2 package has dependency problems...
It would be very cool to have a script to make time lapse videos with our n900 and reflex :D

Re: gPhoto . DSLR remote liveview and control + tethered shooting

It would be great to use gphoto2 with vumeter, for high speed photography!
If someone would compile the latest version of gphoto2, we could use the "trigger function" of vumeter to shoot as a sound trigger.
Anyone willing to compile the latest version of gphoto2? It is available here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gphoto/files/

There's already a very old package available here:
https://garage.maemo.org/projects/gphoto2/
but the maintainer cannot update it.

Re: gPhoto . DSLR remote liveview and control + tethered shooting

I managed to compile the latest version of gphoto2 and use it with VUmeter as sound trigger with my nikon D3100.
The problem is that there's a lag of 1-2 sec due to the camera drivers loading for each shoot, so high speed photography is impossible :(

It's just a cool thing to clap your hand and have your camera shot! :D
