Sorry I THINK I have flasher installed. But I may be trying to run in the wrong directory (downloads) thinking about it?

Sorry I have attempted to flash and failed that is what i was trying to say in last post. My current version is 10.2010.19-1.203.1. My current provider is Vodafone but the mobile is unlocked

Read and follow the wiki. If it didn't work, there's a high likelihood that you did something wrong.

just install the .deb first so you have flasher-3.5. I think flashing is unnecessarily complicated. If I have time I might just write a small script that pulls the latest images does an auto checksum and flashes for you.

In what way is it difficult? It's one line from terminal
Code:

sudo flasher-3.5 -F <firmware-image> -f -R

Thanks. I am happy to give this another shot - however could you advise where I would expect and how I can check if flasher has installed. I assume if I run the command 'sudo dpkg -i <flasher-package-name>' it installs to the folder I am at in the terminal (Downloads). I am clearly not finding it that simple......

Do you wish to wipe your N900 clean with the latest firmware? (y,n)

That's the way it should be but it wasn't.

dpkg -i is the key here
de-package & install

It will install as normal, you dont need to worry about navigating to downloads to run flasher.

Are you a native linux user? I mean nothing by this it's just if there is an OS you are more comfortable using such as windows, you can still do it.

Yes I will fall back on Windows if i cannot progress. But I am making a concerted attempt to give Linux a go. Will update with how I get on.

All done went to laptop(installed Maverick Meerkat) and all went fine. My favourite is that flasher did not install properly. I like the idea of simplifying this - the new user and there wil always be some tends to assume that things are always his/her fault (with me a fair proportion of the time that will be true of course). I am well impressed with Maemo/Linux and the support community is very strong (esp compared to Windows).
Thanks to all.
