Re: LED screen for N900

I am looking for a pop-in replacement for the carl zeiss camera
but what I want is 0-lux FLIR so I can start my own
TSA groping scam like the dweebs at the airports.
(Probably sell like hotcakes to bouncers at the local discos.)

Anyone know any parts that could be hacked inplace?
That would be cool with an LED screen, yano...

Err.. iPhones dont use a LED Screen - they are all LCD (but the iphone 4 is "retina screen" which is a dodgy term that means high res).

Funny thread though.. Really not surprised at how gullible some people are.. sigh

I'll admit, I was being facetious in the last post and I apologise for that.

What I did was contact Apple (sjobs@apple.com), I explained that I was a huge fan and that OSX would work really well on the N900. They ported iOS for me and sent me out a copy in one of those cool gift boxes. It was really nice of them. It runs a little slow unless you overclock your phone though.

I'm sure they will be willing to do the same thing for you too. Just send a polite email to the above address explaining your situation.

Retina Display is a high density LCD screen which is based on IPS (in-plane switching) tecnology and it is use led backlight.

N900's LCD is a high density (less than retina but always very dense) screen based on TN (Twisted Nematic) tecnology
I don't know what type of backlight is used on N900

IPS vs TN:
  • Very Better angle of vision
  • Better contrast
  • True color 24 bit native (TN usually are 18bit and they use dithering to simulate 24 bit)

Even thought the N900 itself might not be being manufactured anymore (is it really?), lots of the components used still are, and the laws that prevented some stuff being made public are still there as well.

Funny, the N900's LCD doesn't seem to have any of the drawbacks normally encountered with TN panels, which typically have far worse viewing angles than the N900 has.

Oh and swapping out the LCD for an OLED would probably be harder than you'd expect, since you'd undoubtedly have to break out a soldering iron at some point.

Not if it is made to be compatible with the N900, replacing the screen on the N900, from what i've heard is just a matter of unscrewing and unplugging, then doing the reverse with the new screen
