after installing "pidgin extra prtocol for conversation and contact" i got some new feilds in contact > (select a contact) Edit > Add field> and here i found yahoo etc.. here is the screen shot..

Ok, but these are the fields for the im accounts. The original question was
how to add/or modify the phone buttons.
Without getting the source of the contacts-ui I don't know how to add
a phone button with a user defined label.

i mean if pidgin can ADD some new fields,so why can not we ADD some fields(with our own text on it)

for example a new field called "yahoo" or "QQ" can come in existence after installing pidgin,can not i do the same for some of my contact for their mobile no.

or if possible can we modify its text(i think it is not possible to edit text on the field)

I didn't say we can not add new fields. But those fields are related
to a protocol handler (aim, jabber, ...). I just don't know how the
phone buttons are handled.

Generally if you pull up the contact info from the place where youre seeing that name (e.g. when reading an SMS tap on the person's picture or choose Open Contact Card from the menu) and the relevant number is highlighted in blue.
Or in some cases only the relevant number is shown (recent calls list, tap an entry to see just the number that called) and you must tap on the picture (in the screen that appears when you tap an entry) to get the full contact card

I'm confused and my memory may be going but I'm pretty sure I was able to add and modify the lables before.. I have now (I think I added these)
Cell (home)
Cell (work)
Phone (home)
Phone (work)
it's been a while so I may be wrong.. does any one else have these..
