I have tried that, but when I "apt-get update" it writes:

E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13 Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the list directory

apt-get should be run as root.

But, first try what Duy2anh suggested.

I think it has something to do with MyDocs partition becoming read-only problems discussed on this thread:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=66004&page=2

This problem seems to occur when the phone freezes or restarts while some apps are accessing your MyDocs partition.

Have you tried this:

Check the file system
Code:

fsck -af /dev/mmcblk0p1
Fsck should identify the file system type.
Then, if everything goes well, mount it back to its place
Code:

mount /home/user/MyDocs

If it mounts alright, check again from your media app, if it says cannot mount or some application is trying to access this folder, reboot the phone and hopefully your problems gone.

I have tried that, but when I type "fsck -af /dev/mmcblk0p1" it writes:

-sh: fsck: not found

fsck should also be done as root.

You could install rootsh from Application Manager.

I have rootsh already installed. Didn't know I have to run these commands as root. Ok, give me a minute here, I'll try.

Ok, it says:

fsck 1.41.3.maemo0 (12-Oct-2008)
dosfsck 2.11, 12 Mar 2005, FAT32, LFN
/dev/mmcblk0p1: 3468 files, 415998/442377 clusters

mount: mounting failed: Device or resource busy

Opps, sorry, it helped me before.

Give this another try?

Code:

root

dosfsck -r /dev/mmcblk0p1

Be careful with letter "l" and number "1":)

If it works, follow the on-screen instructions.
Good luck!

You are getting there. If the fsck ran alright, no need to worry about being unable to mount because infact you perhaps did not umount the partition. Just reboot and see.

Re: How can I fix my N900 without reflashing it?

i tried installing nitdroid but it wasnt successfull due to no enough space and ever since the failure my media player has not been detecting media files, file manager freezing and last call not showing
i'll be very grate full if i can get solution to this other than flashing.
