So... do you think specs can make you happy?
Specs can set you free??

Re: What are the specs you would like your next device to have?

My favourite game ;) !!

For a moment, consider these specs:
Latest Dual-Core ARM Cortex 9 (1.5Ghz)
1GB RAM, 1GB ROM
Atleast 32GB internal memory. 64GB would be better.
CBD or the yet-to-appear S-AMOLED2 screen. Would prefer S-AMOLED2 though.
Higher resolution (720*1280 16:9) screen with higher ppi density (like the iPhone 4 or even better)
3.8 or 4 inch screen with multi-touch. I might be even happy with a 3.5 inch screen too.
Graphics processor: Broadcom's BCM2763 (even better than the BCM2727 in the N8)
3D Graphics HW Accelerator?
Digitizer for hand-writing recognition?
12MP auto-focus camera (like N8's 1/1.83 sensor or even better)
Full-HD 1080P@60fps video recording with stereo audio and Image Stabilization
Dual-Xenon Flash
Front facing camera
Bluetooth 3.0
atleast 1 microUSB 3.0 supported ports
USB OTG and Host Mode support
TV-out via HDMI 1.4 (ethernet support over HDMI?)
TV-in (atleast component quality) - like the Cowon A3
Dolby Digital 5.1 surround support
Loud Stereo (not mono) Speakers
3.5 mm audio jack
DLNA support
Dual Microphones
Noise cancellation
IR Port (supporting IrDA protocols)
FM Stereo Transceiver with RDS
AM Radio (Possible?)
SIRF start4 GPS chip with AGPS. No need of cellular connectivity for the GPS to work.
NFC chip
Pentaband (2G & 3G) GSM support
Wifi b/g/n
4G (LTE) Ready
Digital Compass/Magnetometer
Gyroscope
multi-axis Accelerometer
Vibration chip
Ambient light sensor
Proximity sensor
Metal body finish (like that of N8)
atleast 1 microSDHC (microSDHX?) slot support and this should be hot-swappable (i.e., without removing the battery)
Regular-sized SIM card slot and hot-swappable too. Actually, I am dreaming of a multi-SIM slot in high-end phones
Atleast 1500mah battery. Do 1800 or even 2000mah exist in smartphones today?
Separate charging connector. Also charging over USB
& Most importantly, customizable hardware buttons. More the merrier.
Weight can be around 150gms
List price around $600 (for unlocked)
Keyboard and non-keyboard versions please. Or even better, innovate a stylish keyboard add-on and sell those separately.

At this point, I wouldn't even care, if it sells with Maemo or MeeGo or Symbian^3/4 or Android or iOS

A device of this spec is bound to get hacked!
Possibility of a phone with the above listed spec is already giving me goosebumps. We are not very far to have a phone with such kind of specs. Could be very possible by mid of 2011 itself or in the worst case end-2011.

Btw, I don't think these specs are any impossible to have in one nice little handy package. We have seen almost all of the above specs in the latest phones available in the market today. The only few new things added to the list above are S-AMOLED2, TV-in, BCM2763 graphics chip & multi-SIM card slot.

I would be willing to wait for a phone of this spec to be atleast announced/leaked by the end of 2011.

/Dream over

Having software SIM would be awesome, you place a real SIM in, the device clones the SIM, repeat till you run out of SIMs, then you will run around with a device holding N-SIMs without running out of physicial space.

I read about it somewhere but wasn't sure if that is possible? Any links for further reading that you would recommend?

SIM cloning is also a huge security risk. (For both the operators and the customers).

First N95 then N97 then N900...and now what?? You think they're going to have a successor to N900? I thought they already discontinue the Maemo OS. Meego sucks to me!!!
