Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but Windows Mobile never gained much marketshare overall, and what it had was mainly concentrated in North America. Why would Nokia bet it's future on a long-shot like Microsoft Mobile Division, without hedging that with Meego or Android? It's evident that Nokia has no immediate or long-term strategy, and clearly no confidence in what they're doing.

1000 nokia employees walk out. google trying to recruit them.

well done nokia top brass. bravo.

Haha Google, RIM, and HP should all consider hiring them. Then turn around and finish off Nokia and ensure the Windows Phone 7 never reaches the level that Android and IOS have or will reach.

This might be part of the plan. MS wants to buy cheap...

Nokia's previous strategy destroyed 75% of the corporate value in 3 years placing it back to 1998 levels.

Another 1-2 years of the old Symbian course would have dropped the price to low digits. The old people/strategy were destroying the company

Correct, and OPK was held accountable (certainly too late).
Now Elop announces his new strategy, and the stock is down big time. Do you think that embracing Windows brings NOK up to $15 again?

Performance of a new CEO cannot be measured against failure of the previous guard.

Microsoft buying Nokia would have meant a nice premium for NOK shareholders.

Now Microsoft gets everything they want, no need to buy Nokia anymore.

If Nokia did nothing but continue on current strategy (with their history of failing to execute) there's probably a 80% chance of the stock going to 5.

With the W7 and Meego strategy, I feel there is a 30% of going to $5 and a 60% chance of going to $15. A pleasant surprise might be a decent Meego phone. You'll be surprised how much productivity you can squeeze out of your employees when they know their job is on the line...

Just laying off all Symbian developers saves them 1Billion EUROS a year! shocking!
